Job summary

Eaton Corporation in Canada seeks a Power Systems Automation Specialist to join our team in Mississauga and other Ontario offices. You will deliver full-service integration for power management and monitoring systems, leveraging HMI, PLCs, SCADA, and various OEMs to provide turnkey solutions.

The role requires hands-on engineering, on-site deployment, and travel to customer sites and the United States for training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Technologist Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Systems/Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Minimum 1 year of ICSS automation, PLC programming or SCADA experience.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel to US for training and travel to customer sites.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site integration of power management and monitoring systems.
  • Conduct engineering consults for system integration, start-up, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Design and programming of PLC-based control systems.
  • Design and implement power transfer and control schemes including Main-Tie-Main transfer and load shedding.

Job description

Eaton’s Electrical sector is currently seeking a Power Systems Automation Specialist to join our team. This position can be based at either one of our offices in Mississauga, Kitchener, Whitby, Kingston and Ottawa, ON and offers benefits from day one as well as a company vehicle.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $69000 - $87000 a year.

What you’ll do:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a full-service systems integrator with the capabilities to integrate the necessary equipment and technologies, to provide a complete, power automation solution. This team of engineers and technicians brings extensive skills and experiences with a variety of leading HMI software packages enabling us to design graphically rich, easy-to-use operator interfaces that take advantage of the latest standalone or web-based technologies. Our experience transcends a multitude of equipment manufacturers, software packages, and network architectures, including all major OEM’s HMI, PLC’s, and components. We offer single point responsibility, a high level of engineering and systems integration expertise, and a unified focus on cost effective solutions, seamless integration, HMI development, energy management tools, and professional turnkey system design and implementation.

In this function you will:
  • Provide on-site implementation of Power Management and mission critical monitoring and control systems including Power Xpert, Foreseer, PowerNet, and next generation Power Monitoring platforms.
  • Provide applied engineering and consultation to customers in the areas of system integration, installation, start-up, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training and modification of power management, control, and mission critical systems.
  • Design and programming of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based control systems.
  • Design and implement advanced power transfer and other control schemes including Main-Tie-Main transfer schemes, load shedding/ peak shaving schemes, breaker control schemes, SCADA system development, and generator control. Experience with relay logic is preferred.
  • Quote advanced turnkey power monitoring and control schemes. (analyze specifications, price all applicable labor and materials, write a proposed scope of work, etc.)
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or a Technologist Diploma in a technical discipline (Electrical/ Mechanical/ Systems/ Computer Engineering/ Computer Science).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with ICSS automation or PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) programming or SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).
  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Business travel to customer sites is required.
  • Required to travel to United States for training on safety and Eaton products.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship now or in future.
  • Must live within 80 km of the facility.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience working with ICSS automation or PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) programming or SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).
  • Experience in the practice of safety precautions related to working with automation and electrical distribution systems.
Skills:
  • Understanding of electrical control schematics and single line diagrams.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting, test and repair techniques.
  • Strong computer skills required with Windows Server Operating Systems and SQL Databases.
  • Basic networking skills including the ability to troubleshoot network hardware and interfaces.
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment and diagnostic instruments.
  • Programming of PLC control systems an asset.
  • Knowledge of cyber security principles an asset.
  • Commissioning experience an asset.
  • Ability to interface with internal and external customers, salespeople, and other team members on a technical level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication/ presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated individual who can perform both independently and in a team environment.
