Job summary

A leading transport company in Ontario, Canada is seeking a Power Line Technician responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance on overhead power systems. Applicants should possess electrical qualifications, including a Journey Man Electrician certificate or equivalent, and be capable of working effectively in teams. The Power Line Technician is responsible for preventative & corrective maintenance on overhead catenary power systems and will assist in other electrical duties i.e. TPSS, TVS, batteries, lighting, general power equipment, switches, switch heaters, etc.

Responsibilities
  • To carry out the power isolation processes / tag out / lock out operation (TPSS, OCS) for the rail system team and any designated third parties.
  • To be a TPIP (Track power isolation permit) holder.
  • To carry out such work in accordance with strict Health & Safety procedures as defined by legislation and the Company Health & Safety policies.
  • To participate in the maintenance of other assets (Ventilation, security assets, pumps, switches, etc.).
  • To carry out work arising involving the use of computerized equipment/working manuals.
  • To exchange / repair some of the assets of the sub-systems.
  • To undertake other duties related to all infrastructure assets as specified by the Supervisor or Manager.
  • In case of accident or major failure, to participate in the rescue/corrective operations.
  • To report activities (work orders / inspections) through a computerized maintenance management system.
  • To supervise subcontractor activities.
  • To attend regular team briefings.
  • To read reports and manuals as and when required.
  • To drive company vehicles when required.
  • To respect, clean and maintain the work environment.
  • To work with the Rail System Team in case of emergency or extreme weather (ice/snow) to maintain the operation of the rail system.
  • To work at night and weekends.
Technical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Experience working on power lines desired but not mandatory.
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle for work-related tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office applications & Windows operating system (as needed).
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language at a high level of proficiency while using the phone, in email communications, and in person.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to work at night and weekends.
  • Work 12- to 14‑hour day during emergencies related to weather or other unplanned emergencies.
Educational Requirements
  • Mandatory: Journey Man Electrician or Electrical Engineering Degree or Electrical Engineering Technologist.
  • Desirable: Master Electrician or Equivalent experience.
Pay

CAD 35.17/hour
