Job description

The Opportunity

Responsible for providing quality workmanship, consistent service, and technical knowledge to customers.

Performs tasks related to testing, diagnosing, repair, maintenance, and reconditioning of Power Generation units (gasoline, diesel, natural gas) engine components, typically on-site at customer locations or in the shop.

The Role

  • Test, measure, and verify electrical component operations; conduct transfer tests for transfer switches, breakers, and generators.
  • Inspect and diagnose components and generator sets.
  • Perform emergency service, preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and customer instruction for generators.
  • Communicate with generator owners for service and repair authorizations.
  • Service and repair generators both in-shop and on-site.
  • Recondition and remanufacture components for controllers and engine repairs.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Communicate service needs with supervisors/managers.
  • Document work performed and complete service records.
  • Program, test, and troubleshoot generator sets and control systems.
  • Conduct startups and load bank tests.
  • Work with AC & DC systems.
  • Perform scheduled testing as per CSA-282-15 standards.
  • Work with medium and low voltage systems; read single-line diagrams.
  • Maintain service records and warranty information.
  • Participate in manufacturer and in-house training, including after-hours sessions.
  • Follow health and safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain tools, materials, and service vehicle.
  • Conduct housekeeping duties and uphold a professional company image.
  • Complete hazard assessments as required.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

The Candidate

  • Trade certification, Journeyman Red Seal, Heavy-Duty Mechanics Provincial Apprenticeship, or Power Generation/Heavy Equipment Technician experience.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as a generator service technician.
  • Proficient communication skills, customer service ability, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license, MS Office proficiency, ability to work independently, on-call rotation, valid passport, and willingness to travel to the US for training.
