Job summary

EllisDon is hiring a Power Engineer for a 24HR healthcare facility in British Columbia. The role covers operation, monitoring, and maintenance of chillers, boilers, and BAS systems, with a focus on safety and reliability.

You will respond to alarms, perform routine maintenance, and support emergency codes while ensuring compliance with mechanical and plumbing standards. This position requires BC power certification and shift flexibility.

Qualifications

• Must hold BC Power Engineer Class 4 certification.
• 3–5 years healthcare facility experience is preferred.
• Willing to work rotational shifts in a 24HR facility.
• Strong HVAC, medical gas, BAS and plumbing knowledge.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Able to read blueprints and follow specifications.
• Physical ability to perform duties.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and maintain chillers, cooling towers, boilers and related equipment.
• Respond to alarms and troubleshoot issues.
• Maintain cooling tower, chiller tubes, and boiler rooms.
• Perform maintenance on air compressors, actuators, valves, and related systems.
• First responder to fire alarm and related codes.
• Assist with elevator service and respond to emergencies.
• Troubleshoot and repair calls, escalate to supervisor as needed.
• Inspect plant equipment and log daily activities.
• Test and calibrate control devices and environmental parameters.
• Close work orders and maintain logs.
• Prepare reports and other duties as assigned.
• Other duties per supervisor.

You as Power Engineer will:

• Operate, monitor, and perform maintenance on all chillers, cooling towers, steam boilers, hot water boilers and their auxiliary and ancillary equipment, promptly responds to their alarms, troubleshoots, and fixes or isolates
• Work independently and have sound judgement during stressful times
• Clean and maintain cooling tower, chiller tubes and fire chamber of hot water and steam boilers
• Perform maintenance on air compressors, air dryer, actuators, regulator, valves and airlines as required
• First responder to fire alarm and other emergency codes, fire alarm panel and other related equipment upon the request of the Fire Marshall
• Respond to elevator troubles, initiate elevator service for breakdowns and entrapments and inform Supervisor any emergency service
• Respond to general maintenance and trouble calls as requested and troubleshoot, repair, or control the problem, consult Supervisor for after hour service calls
• Inspect plant equipment and facility mechanical rooms daily and fill out the necessary log sheets
• Test, calibrate, measure, and adjust control devices and space environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity and air flow throughout the facility includingpatient isolation rooms
• Close PM and routine work orders on the PDA after completing work assignments
• Maintain Log books and write reports as required and requested
• Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required and as assigned by the Supervisor

Is this role right for you?

• Must be Certified as a BC Power Engineer Class 4
• 3 to 5 years field experience would be considered a strong asset, preferably in healthcare
• Must comply with a rotational shift work schedule - this site is a 24HR maintained facility
• Excellent knowledge of HVAC, medical gas, BAS, and plumbing systems
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to assess and solve problems, and know when to request assistance to solve an issue before it escalates.
• Good organizational skills
• Desire to learn and upgrade technical skills
• Comfortable using computer technology
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations
• Ability to perform duties that vary frequently according to assignment
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, codes and specifications
• The hourly rate for this role is $40.04
