An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Supervisor for their power plant operations in extreme conditions. This role involves overseeing the maintenance of generators and water treatment systems, ensuring safety and compliance with environmental standards. The successful candidate will manage work orders, coordinate tasks, and provide safety training while working in a challenging environment. If you have a strong mechanical background and supervisory experience, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to critical operations in a remote setting.
• Maintains a safe workplace program, ensuring safety is the highest priority.
• Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management, and Quality Assurance requirements, providing necessary documentation.
• Supervises operation, preventive maintenance, and repair of power plant generators, emergency generators, high voltage switchgear, desalination and water treatment systems, and wastewater treatment plants.
• Initiates and closes work orders, sets priorities, and delegates tasks.
• Willing to carry a radio or pager for after-hours call-outs.
• Completes maintenance records, documents work performed, and maintains logs and databases.
• Ensures uninterrupted electrical service, water supply, and proper wastewater plant operation through planning, scheduling, and supervision.
• Responds promptly to power outages.
• Advises the Utilities Supervisor on system status.
• Coordinates with the on-ice Facility Engineer regarding power, water, and wastewater systems.
• Orders parts and supplies, maintains inventory at at least 95% accuracy.
• Supports achievement of ASC metrics.
• Provides safety training and documents it.
• Assists in creating and monitoring budgets.
• Recruits, recommends personnel, and monitors performance.
• Evaluates hazards and communicates safety information.
• Interprets project drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
• Handles confidential matters professionally.
• Communicates effectively with staff and stakeholders.
• May work outdoors in extreme cold and challenging conditions.
• Interacts professionally with external agencies and partners.
• Participates in dormitory chores during deployment.
• Performs other duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, Certificates, and Licenses:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least two years of supervisory experience in diesel power plant operation and maintenance.
Expected Skills and Competencies:
• Mechanical aptitude and multitasking skills.
• Knowledge of diesel engine maintenance and safety.
• Understanding of electrical distribution and medium voltage systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; higher proficiency preferred.
Preferred:
• Experience with Polar Logistics operations.
• Experience with desalination or wastewater treatment plants.
• Licenses in water/wastewater treatment preferred.
Physical and Other Requirements:
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica.
• Successful medical, dental, drug screening, and background checks.
• Ability to lift and perform physical activities in cold environments.
• Community participation.
• Valid US driver’s license and ability to obtain facility credentials (US citizenship required).
