Job description

Job Summary

The candidate will work in the Hayden Laboratory, Department of Medical Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. This full‑time, grant‑funded position allows the candidate to lead and participate in projects focused on the genetics of Huntington disease, its molecular mechanisms, and the development of novel therapeutics. The role includes mentoring trainees, supervising technicians, and engaging with industry partners, providing a platform for advanced training and career development in academia or industry.

Salary: $55,000 per year.

Responsibilities
  • Management and supervision of technicians.
  • Recruitment and training of technicians.
  • Perform regular literature reviews.
  • Plan and design experiments.
  • Analyze, interpret, and compile data in study reports; present results; participate in manuscript and grant preparation.
  • Update Dr. Hayden and the group on project status during lab meetings, through email, and phone conferences.
  • Manage projects in collaboration with key academic and industry partners.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD degree in the biosciences.
  • At least four years of laboratory research experience.
  • Experience in cell biology with an emphasis on neurobiology.
  • Extensive knowledge of cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics.
  • Experience with disease model systems is a plus.
  • Proven ability to multi‑task in a deadline‑oriented environment with minimal supervision.
  • Effective oral and written communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skill and ability to learn new skills quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
Supervision Received

Works independently under the direction of PI, Dr. Michael Hayden. Opportunities to collaborate with industry partners and other researchers at UBC and globally.

Supervision Given

Assists and oversees research assistants and students as required. Provides guidelines to other research members as needed.
