Job summary

Kaizen Lab Inc. in Nanaimo, BC seeks a PBS Supervisor for maternity coverage to lead clinical support for families and supervise staff in a community-based program.

The BCBA in good standing with a Master's in a related field will oversee Functional Assessments, PBS and safety planning, collaborate with schools, psychiatrists, CYMH and families, and promote evidence-based practices. This temporary full-time role requires strong leadership and travel within the community.

Qualifications

  • Must hold BCBA in good standing.
  • Master's degree in Behaviour Analysis, Psychology, Education or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of ABA, PBS, and functional assessment.
  • 3–5 years in neurodiversity or developmental delay fields; caregiver coaching experience.
  • Leadership experience is a strong asset.
  • Reliable vehicle for daily community travel.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Assessment: conduct Functional Assessment Interviews and observations.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Supervisor – Maternity Leave Coverage

Are you a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) looking to make a profound difference in Nanaimo? Join BGC Central Vancouver Island as our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Supervisor. In this pivotal leadership role, you will use your expertise in neurodiversity and behavioural science to support families, guide staff, reduce barriers, and help replace crisis with capability.

This is a temporary, full-time position providing maternity leave coverage.

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Clinical Assessment: Conduct Functional Assessment Interviews and observations to better understand the "why" behind challenging behaviours.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop, implement, and oversee individualized PBS and Safety Plans in collaboration with families and a multi-disciplinary team, including schools, psychiatrists, and CYMH professionals.
  • Family Coaching: Act as a lead educator and resource for caregivers, helping them understand neurodiversity, including Autism, ADHD, and FASD, while building their skills and confidence in supporting their child's unique strengths and needs.
  • Staff Supervision and Leadership: Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, and support to Child and Youth Care Workers, ensuring staff have the tools, knowledge, and clinical direction necessary to effectively support children, youth, and families.
  • Clinical Oversight: Support staff in implementing behaviour support strategies and provide consultation and guidance when navigating complex or challenging situations.
  • Advocacy: Navigate complex systems to reduce barriers to service, ensuring families have access to appropriate resources and a strong voice in their care.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Work alongside the CYSN team and other community professionals to ensure a coordinated, wraparound approach to care.

What You Bring

  • Mandatory Certification: You are a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) in good standing.
  • Education: A Master's Degree in Behaviour Analysis, Psychology, Education, or a related Social or Human Services field.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Extensive knowledge and practical experience in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), functional assessment, behavioural intervention, and safety planning.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of direct experience working in the neurodiversity or developmental delay field, with demonstrated experience in behavioural intervention and caregiver coaching.
  • Leadership Experience: Experience providing clinical guidance, mentorship, supervision, or leadership to frontline staff is a strong asset.
  • Resilience & Empathy: You are skilled at maintaining professional boundaries, communicating clearly under pressure, and providing compassionate, strength-based support to families and staff.
  • The Essentials: You have a reliable vehicle for daily community travel and the flexibility to meet the needs of the children, youth, families, and staff you support.
