The opportunity :

The Portfolio Manager, Trading & Investment Management plays a primary role in supporting the investment management operations. Working closely with other Portfolio Managers on the Investment Management team, the incumbent is responsible to ensure client portfolios are properly invested according to investment strategies and mandates, within any unique constraints for each individual client.

As an integral member of the Investment Management team, the Portfolio Manager, Trading & Investment Management contributes macro-economic research, securities analysis, model analysis, portfolio construction recommendations, prepare performance analytics, and undertake multi-manager due diligence, including alternative manager management. The Portfolio Manager, Trading & Investment Management is an integral member of an experienced, collaborative team of Portfolio Managers, Associates, Tax, Estate and Wealth Planners who will deliver exceptional service and support team's high and ultra-high net worth clients.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Co-leading the day-to-day management of the investment management operations.
  • Modelling and trading client portfolios according to their Investment Policy Statement, tactical asset allocation, and unique constraints.
  • Managing the efficient, compliant execution of all trading.
  • Managing client credit and debit balances, ensuring minimal debit costs and reasonable loose cash balances to minimize cash drag.
  • Executing cash transfers in portfolios, including foreign exchange transactions, journal requests, and contributions.
  • Managing and reporting on monthly trading profit and loss.
  • Co-leading and managing regular Investment Management Operations Meetings and participate in regular Investment Committee Meetings as a key idea contributor to the investment management process, including idea generation, and ensuring ongoing investment management processes are being met.
  • Researching macro-economics and staying current with ongoing economic / company news to add qualitative mosaic theory to the investment process, reporting regular summaries to Senior Portfolio Managers.
  • Preparing regular portfolio analytics for fixed income, equity, and multi-manager models.
  • Performing multi-manager due diligence research to meet compliance requirements and aid in investment decision making.
  • Preparing company research, investment analysis and custom client performance reporting.
  • Monitoring corporate actions and reorganizations and prepare analysis and recommendations.
  • Adding to the investment process and portfolio construction solutions in the following areas :

Fixed Income : Money Market / Cash Management,Individual Bonds.

  • 3rd Party Multi Managers : Credit Strategies,US Equities,Global Equity,International Equities.
  • Working closely with Associates to deliver exceptional service to clients.
  • Attending internal meetings with Senior Portfolio Managers and Associates on client matters.
  • Communicating verbally and in writing with clients in response to questions.
  • Collaborating with Associates on various operational projects and take proactive steps to improve operational policies, processes and practices.
  • Delivering assigned Investment Management projects, providing regular progress reporting.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess :

  • A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or investment orsimilar field of study.
  • A minimum of5 years of progressive experience in trading, investment management operations, selecting investments and undertaking manager due diligence.
  • Experience working with high net worth clients is preferred.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Investment Manager (CIM).
  • Completion of Portfolio Manager accreditation and RR licensing (CIRO).
  • Option Licensing (CIRO) is considered an asset.
  • Strong ability to communicate with clients in a personalized and professional manner.
  • Experience using investment research trading and modeling tools are preferred;Bloomberg (PORT), Thomson One for data analytics, quotes, research,Advent Genesis / Moxy / Envestnet for modelling, bulk trading, execution, reporting,Croesus / Envestnet for portfolio management & reporting.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the Canadian wealth management industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of Canadian income taxation for purposes of tax efficiently modelling client portfolios.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem solving, risk management, and portfolio construction skills.
  • Self-starter, ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, positivity, cooperative attitude with a focus on providing exceptional service and support to clients in a collaborative manner.
