Job summary

Fluent Software Group, part of Valsoft, seeks a Portfolio Controller to lead controllership, treasury and compliance across its software businesses. You will own cash management, maintain strong internal controls, and drive high-quality reporting in a dynamic acquisition-driven environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
• CPA, CA or equivalent professional qualification.
• Experience at manager level overseeing key accounting processes.
• Proven people management or team leadership experience.
• Strong IFRS knowledge, IFRS 15/16/3 with consolidation experience.
• Advanced Excel; AI tools to automate finance workflows; Python/Power Query a plus.
• Experience with intercompany transactions and internal controls.
• Experience in software industry, SaaS or recurring revenue preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own month-, quarter-, and year-end close deliverables including cash flows and dividends.
• Manage treasury: cash planning, banking, debt, working capital, dividends, cash visibility.
• Coordinate tax compliance and transfer pricing with external advisors.
• Act as technical accounting lead for IFRS standards and consolidations.
• Lead intercompany reconciliation and recharges; resolve discrepancies.
• Strengthen internal controls to support clean audits.
• Support acquisition integration from a technical accounting perspective.
• Manage a team of 2–3 and coach team members.
• Partner with cross-functional leaders to align priorities and risks.

The Opportunity:Controller

The Portfolio Controller reports directly to the Portfolio Director of Finance and works as part of the broader Finance team. This is a technical role combining controllership, treasury, and compliance ownership. You will be the portfolio’s technical accounting specialist — owning the cash management process, ensuring robust internal controls and clean audit outcomes — while actively partnering with other department teams to raise reporting quality without becoming a bottleneck in day-to-day operations.

You will own the controllership and treasury function end-to-end: from intercompany reconciliation to IFRS 15 and 16, tax compliance, and cash management across your responsible businesses.

International travel may berequiredfor business process reviews and acquisition integration.

The salary range for this role is$100,000–$120,000 CADper year, plus 10% annual bonus. Final compensation will bedeterminedbased on experience, skills, and location.

WhatYou’llOwn

• Own the preparation and review of all assigned business month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close deliverables, including the statement of cash flows and dividend declarations.

• Own the treasury function, including monthly cash requirements reporting, banking administration, debt management,working capitalplanning,coordinating dividendpaymentandmaintainingaccuratecash visibility at all times.

• Coordinate tax compliance obligations whererequired, specifically transfer pricing arrangements,corporate tax support, and compliance deadlines,consulting with external advisors as needed.

• Serve as the technical accounting lead for assigned businesses, providing guidance on IFRS 15, IFRS 16, IFRS 3, consolidations, and other complex accounting matters.

• Lead the intercompany reconciliation and recharges process across assigned businesses,including resolving complex discrepancies and improving consistency between entities.

• Own and strengthen the internal control environment across the portfolio,identifyingfinancial risks, addressing control gaps, and supporting clean audit outcomes.

• Support acquisition integration from a technical accounting perspective, including step plan adherence, revenue recognition checklists, and PPA model review,as well as aligning newlyacquiredbusinesses with Fluent’s accounting policies and controls.

• Manage a team of 2–3, ensuring tasks are appropriatelydelegatedand team members are coached and developed,whilemaintainingaccountability for the accuracy and quality of their work.

• Partner with cross-functional leadersat the businesses and alignpriorities, financial risk, process improvements, and broader finance initiatives.

WhatWe’reLooking For

• A minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including experienceoperatingat a manager or controller level.

• CPA, CA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification.

• Previousexperienceoperatingat the manager level, with responsibility for overseeing key accounting processes and deliverables,including independently managing complex financial matters across multiple businesses or legal entities.

• Provenpeoplemanagement or team leadership experience, including coaching, supporting, developing,and reviewing the work ofteam members.

• Strong IFRS technical knowledge, specifically IFRS 15, IFRS 16, and IFRS 3, with essentialconsolidationaccounting experienceand exposure to complex intercompany transactions and internal controls.

• Advanced Excel skills;demonstratedexperience using AI tools (Claude, Copilot, or equivalent) to automate finance workflows; Python or Power Query experience is a strong advantage.

Strongly Preferred

• Experience in both public practice accounting and a private industry accounting environment

• Previousexperience within the software industry, particularly in a recurring revenue or SaaS environment.

• Hands-on experience with NetSuite and Power BI
