Job summary

WeCommerce is seeking a Portfolio Controller to manage full-cycle accounting for multiple portfolio companies. The role reports to the Director of Finance and requires critical thinking to identify and solve problems within a remote, flexible environment.

Ideal candidate holds a CPA designation with IFRS experience and 4+ years in an Assistant Controller or Controller role. Strong Excel skills and clear communication are essential for success in this remote Canada-based position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with a CPA designation and proven IFRS experience.
• 4+ years’ industry experience in an Assistant Controller or Controller role.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and productively within a remote work structure.
• The ability to communicate clearly and articulately with colleagues and senior management.
• A passion for learning and commitment to personal and professional growth.
• Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, with the ability to synthesize and communicate information.
• The ability to learn quickly, retain information and apply it to your work.

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial reporting and accounting activities for various portfolio companies as needed
• Prepare annual and quarterly financial statements, management reports and key performance indicators
• Develop forecasts and ad hoc analysis to support strategic business decision making
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment with company financial goals
• Assist with the annual budget process at various portfolio companies as needed
• Review and approve variable pay calculations
• Prepare the annual corporate tax filing for required entities
• Ensuring compliance with statutory remittances and filings (i.e. GST/HST, EHT etc.)
• Facilitate the completion of audits as required
• Ensure compliance with required accounting standards
• Evaluate internal controls and make recommendations for improvements

About the Role

Our ideal Portfolio Controller has a strong work ethic with a depth of experience handling full-cycle accounting duties. This hands‑on role will report directly to the Director of Finance. Success in this role requires critical thinking and the ability to identify and solve problems with confidence. We are an innovative and energetic team and are looking for a like‑minded person that appreciates an informal and social culture but is also willing to work hard to deliver a high standard of work when deadlines need to be met. Our team works completely remote with regular check‑ins and weekly stand ups. The hours of this position can be flexible.

Location: Canada (Remote)

Requirements:

Other experience that would be considered an asset:

• Experience with Xero, Stripe, Shopify, Paypal, Gsuite, and other online/cloud tools
• Experience implementing and applying IFRS 15
• Auditing experience
• Experience in the SaaS or technology industry

Compensation

We offer a starting salary of $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 CAD depending on experience. We take a holistic approach to compensation at WeCommerce. Total compensation includes Salary, benefits, RRSP, ESPP, and other perks.
