Job summary

Firm Five is a Part-Time Consultant, fully remote, serving Canadian and U.S. eCommerce brands. You will manage monthly accounting in QBO or Xero for channels like Shopify and Amazon, focusing on accurate financials, clean COGS, and timely reporting.

The role requires 3–5 years in full-cycle accounting for a client book, familiarity with eCommerce tools, and proactive client communication. Remote work, strong collaboration, and scalable processes are emphasized.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years experience managing full cycle accounting for a book of clients, ideally in an accounting or bookkeeping firm.
• Experience with eCommerce accounting, inventory, or marketplace reconciliations.
• Familiarity with Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, A2X, Webgility, or similar tools is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Set up and optimize eCommerce-friendly charts of accounts, including revenue, payment processors, COGS, and inventory categories.
• Perform bank, payment processor, and marketplace reconciliations (Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal, Amazon settlements, etc.)
• Categorize transactions aligned with eCommerce activity
• Manage receipts and supporting documents
• Prepare monthly P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements, with a focus on insights for product-based businesses
• Record sales tax liabilities and ensure accuracy (no tax filing required)
• Perform accrual accounting, inventory adjustments, landed cost allocations, and COGS entries
• Handle opening balances and catch-up bookkeeping for eCommerce brands
• Communicate proactively with clients via Slack and email in English
• Identify and correct discrepancies in revenue, payouts, returns, fees, and inventory
• Experience with A2X or similar tools preferred but not required

We serve a client base of emerging brands with $2M–$50M annual revenue in Canada and the US, helping them not only maintain their financial reporting but also optimize and automate their financial processes. Our clients rely on us for all things accounting and administration (we don’t do tax work), and we take pride in delivering clarity, efficiency, and financial insight.

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced and strategic eCommerce Accountant to manage the full accounting cycle for U.S. and Canadian eCommerce brands. Your primary responsibility is to complete and review monthly accounting in QBO or Xero for clients who sell through Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, Etsy, and other online sales channels. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financials, clean COGS, and timely reporting for fast-growing digital retail businesses.

Qualifications

• Canada or USA post secondary required
• CPA, CFA, MBA, or equivalent senior finance credentials.
• 3-5 years experience managing full cycle accounting for a book of clients, ideally in an accounting or bookkeeping firm
• Experience with eCommerce accounting, inventory, or marketplace reconciliations
• Familiarity with Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, A2X, Webgility, or similar tools is an asset
• Prior experience working with eCommerce clients based in Australia, the U.S., or Canada
