Job description

Join to apply for the Porter (Environmental Services) role at Michael Garron Hospital.

Under the direction of Facility Services Management, the Porter is responsible for assisting in the transport of patients and materials throughout the Hospital, focusing on safe work practices, high-quality work, and excellent customer service. Responsibilities include transporting patients for diagnostic tests and between units, as well as transporting specimens, blood work, medication, linen, equipment, and mail within the Hospital. The Porter also responds to emergency codes such as Code Blue, Code Pink, and Code Omega.

Minimum Education

• Completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent
• BCLS certification is an asset

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of recent relevant experience (within the last 3 years), preferably in a healthcare environment
• Effective communication skills in English (written and oral)
• Successful completion of all mandatory testing with a minimum score of 50%
• Ability to meet physical demands, including walking, bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, and lifting
• Ability to lift up to 50kg (110 lbs) with equipment
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to engage positively with patients and clients
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Computer proficiency, including email and educational modules (iLearn)
• Familiarity with technology such as Vocera and Call Tracking (preferred)
• Flexibility and ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of hospital codes and response protocols (preferred)
• Good attendance and work record
• Knowledge of hospital layout (asset)
