Job summary

LawZero in Montreal seeks a hands-on Platform Engineer to own the platform layer between researchers and GPU infrastructure, including CI/CD, Kubernetes clusters, cloud environments, and standardization. This is a small IT team role with significant scope to shape how systems are built.

You will implement and manage Kubernetes in research workloads, define CI/CD best practices, and drive platform standards while ensuring security and reliability for both on-prem and cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or related infrastructure role.
• Production Kubernetes experience: upgrades, RBAC, networking, storage, troubleshooting.
• Solid CI/CD experience with modern toolchains; build pipelines from scratch.
• GitOps experience is a plus.
• Hands-on with major cloud providers and infrastructure as code.
• Strong Linux fundamentals; scripting in Python/Go/Bash.
• Knowledge of containers, registries, runtime security, and base images.
• Fluent English; French is a strong asset.
• Experience supporting ML or research workloads is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and run Kubernetes clusters for research workloads, including autoscaling and network policies.
• Define and enforce CI/CD best practices with security scanning and provenance.
• Manage internal services like artifacts and container registries for research teams.
• Manage cloud environments as code (Terraform or equivalent).
• Define platform standards and promote reusable deployment patterns.
• Bridge Kubernetes and HPC (Slurm) workloads for cohesive researcher experience.
• Build observability with metrics, logs, traces, and alerts (Prometheus/Grafana).
• Embed security controls: least-privilege IAM, secrets management, supply-chain integrity.
• Document builds and automate repeatable tasks; contribute to incident response.
