Position Summary

The Plant Supervisor, under the direction of the Production Manager, will primarily be responsible for ensuring that plant processes and timelines are met in a manner that is both safe and consistent with the goals of the company. This position will ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards. This role will also ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic cross-training, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal. The Plant Supervisor will be proactive in looking for opportunities for continuous improvement and focus on finding new ways to make the environment more efficient.

Responsibilities:

What you’ll do:

  • Ensure safe work practices are being followed.
  • Ensure that employees adhere to all health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records that are compliant with legislative requirements.
  • Under the direction of Human Resources, handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and ensure that timecard entries in the payroll system are completed and accurate on a biweekly basis.
  • Ensure that all employees take allotted vacation time in compliance with applicable employment and labour standards.
  • Provide coaching and development to the Production Lead Hands.
  • Determine areas of improvement for employees, providing additional training as needed.
  • Approve vacation requests and monitor vacation schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Administer disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures and document those situations.
  • Manage and monitor work orders and direct the flow of work on the shop floor.
  • Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards.
  • Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development.
  • Ensure that all staff under your direction are equipped with and are using the proper personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in site and workplace inspections.
  • Liaise with other departments as well as other shifts to ensure that all parties are aware of the priorities for that day.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to stay calm in stressful or unexpected situations.
  • People-centric leadership style with a focus on empowering direct reports.
  • Prior experience organizing daily workload and setting daily priorities.
  • Strong conflict management skills with a focus on promoting teamwork and positivity in interactions.
  • Successful completion of Supervisor Competency training.
  • Flexibility in hours to meet the needs of the business.
  • Commitment to Health and Safety.
  • Willingness to learn equipment and processes.
  • Focus on floor-level supervision with the workload split with roughly 80% floor support and 20% office/paperwork completion.
