Job summary

NB Power is seeking Plant Operators for the Belledune Generating Station to control unit operation and maintain continuous electricity flow according to operating requirements.

Ideal candidates hold a Power Engineering Technology Diploma, Second Class licence with plan to upgrade, and a valid Class 5 driver’s licence; strong problem-solving and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Power Engineering Technology Diploma is required.
• Second Class Power Engineer Licence; must obtain Second Class within 36 months from date of hire.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with acceptable driving record.
• Self-directed and communicative with good problem-solving and relationship-building abilities.

Responsibilities

NB Power’s Generation division is seeking Plant Operators at the Belledune Generating Station. The Operator is responsible for controlling the operation of the generating units and auxiliary equipment in order to maintain the efficient production and continuous flow of electricity to meet system operating requirements.

Key functions include:

• Conducting operational checks of all plant and auxiliary equipment
• Completing environmental compliance checks inside and outside the station
• Performing system lockout/tag out in support of maintenance

Our ideal teammates will have:

• Power Engineering Technology Diploma
• Third Class Power Engineer Licence. Must obtain Second Class Power Engineering License within thirty-six (36) months from the date of hire. (Note: candidates who have not completed the diploma, but possess a Second Class Power Engineering License will be considered)
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with an acceptable driving record

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
