Job summary

Strathcona Resources Ltd. in Lloydminster, SK, is seeking a Plant Operator to join the Thermal Operations team.

If you have hands-on SAGD/CSS experience and a strong safety mindset, this role offers hands-on operation of thermal processing equipment and opportunities to lead safety initiatives. Reporting to the Steam Chief, you’ll operate complex systems, conduct inspections, and drive production efficiency while upholding HSER standards.

Qualifications

• Power Engineering certification is required with progress toward Second-Class considered an asset.
• 5+ years of oil and gas experience, SAGD or CSS.
• Commitment to safety leadership and participation in HSE programs.
• Hands-on knowledge of OTSGs, water/oil treating, and thermal oil wells.
• Strong teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
• Proactive troubleshooting in dynamic operating conditions.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with HSER, TSASK and OH&S standards and Strathcona policies.
• Safely operate and monitor thermal processing equipment and systems.
• Conduct field rounds, inspections and data collection to support decisions.
• Maintain stable plant operations and meet production targets.
• Troubleshoot upsets and minimize downtime to optimize performance.
• Prioritize safety, environmental compliance, and production efficiency.
• Review, revise and write Operations Procedures.
• Log deficiencies, maintain accurate records and support MOC/work orders.
• Notify leadership of emergencies and assist during drills.
• Participate in safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture.

Schedule

Rotating day/night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and extra coverage as needed.

Note

This position requires the successful candidate to reside in the Luseland/Unity area or willingness to relocate upon hire and hold a valid Class 5 driver's license with driver's abstract. Reporting to the Steam Chief, the Plant Operator is expected to have comprehensive knowledge of safety protocols, plant equipment, and plant operations in all areas.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with, and commitment to Strathcona's Health, Safety, Environment and Regulatory (HSER) policies, as well as TSASK and OH&S standards.
• Safely operate and monitor thermal processing equipment and systems
• Conduct field rounds, inspections, and data collection to support operational decisions
• Maintain stable plant operations while meeting production and steam delivery targets
• Troubleshoot upset conditions and take corrective action to minimize downtime and optimize performance
• Prioritize safety, environmental compliance, and production efficiency.
• Review, revise and write Operations Procedures.
• Report deficiencies, maintain accurate logbooks and support MOC and work orders processes.
• Notify leader of emergency/upset situations impacting the facility.
• Lead or support during emergencies, maintenance, and ERP drills.
• Participate in safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum Third-Class Power Engineering (TSASK) Certification. Progress toward a Second-Class is considered an asset.
• 5+ years of related industry experience in Oil and Gas (SAGD or CSS).
• Commitment to safety leadership and participation in HSE programs
• Hands-on knowledge with Once Through Steam Generator's (OTSGs), water/oil treating and thermal oil wells.
• Strong teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.
• Being proactive with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in dynamic operating conditions
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office programs.
