Job summary

Strathcona Resources Ltd in Alberta is seeking an experienced Plant Operator for our Lindbergh SAGD facility. Reporting to the Shift Engineer, you will manage plant operations, uphold HSER policies, and lead during emergencies to maximize safe production.

The role requires SAGD experience, a Third-Class ABSA certificate, and strong teamwork and communication skills. Occasional shift rotations, including nights and weekends, are expected in a dynamic oil sands environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Third-Class ABSA Power Engineering Certificate of Competency; Second Class preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related oil and gas experience with steam generation (SAGD/CSS).
  • SAGD operating experience and understanding of OT SGs, water/oil treating, and de-oiling processes.
  • Ability to work in a team, with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, focused on safety and results, with good decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Strathcona's HSER policies and procedures.
  • Provide creative solutions and troubleshoot plant issues, flag deficiencies, and suggest changes.
  • Maintain safety, environment, and health of personnel while maximizing production.
  • Review, revise, and write Operations Procedures.
  • Maintain legible, time-stamped logbooks and accurate records.
  • Direct maintenance and ensure work is completed per procedures and standards.
  • Provide leadership during emergencies or maintenance events.
  • Assist with ERP drills and participate in safety meetings.

Reporting to the Shift Engineer, the Plant Operator will be responsible for having a full working knowledge of safety procedures, plant equipment and plant operations in all areas.This position requires the successful candidate to reside in the Cold Lake or Bonnyville, AB area or be willing to relocate upon hireResponsibilities:Ensure compliance with, and commitment to, Strathcona's Health, Safety and Environment and Regulatory (HSER) policiesProvide creative solutions and effective problem solving of issues that arise within the plant environment i.e., troubleshooting, flagging deficiencies, and recommending changes to current practices.Focus on safety, environment and health of employees while maximizing plant production.Review, revise and write Operations Procedures.Report deficiencies, initiate MOCs and enter work orders.Notify leader of emergency/upset situations impacting the facility.Maintain Logbooks to ensure entries are legible, informative, and time stamped.Compliance with ABSA, AER, and OH&S directives.Direct maintenance and ensure that the work is completed as per Strathcona's procedures and work standards.Provide responsible and effective leadership during emergency situations or maintenance situations.Assist with Emergency Response Plan (ERP) drills.Participate in safety meetings and continually strive to maintain a safe workplace.Qualifications:Minimum of a Third-Class ABSA Power Engineering Certificate of Competency, Second Class preferred.Minimum of 5 years of related industry experience with steam generation in the Oil and Gas industry (SAGD or CSS).SAGD operating experience, and strong understanding of it processes: Once Through Steam Generator’s (OTSG’s), Water treating, Oil treating process, De-oiling processAn understanding of evaporator systems and Cogen power generation.Ability to work effectively in a team environment, utilizing strong communication and organizational skills.Team player with strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills.Self –motivated, open-minded and results oriented.Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, and strong decision-making skills.Demonstrated investigative and data analysis ability.Strong analytical skills, capable of resolving problems independently.Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office programs.Other Details:Work shift work on a day/night shift rotation in a plant environment, including weekends, holidays and other shift coverage as required.Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license (a driver’s abstract is required).Great things aren’t done by one person, they’re done by a team.We believe meaningful results come from people with unwavering commitment to integrity, energy, and intelligence – how we show up matters just as much as what we deliver.
