Job summary

G Mining Services is seeking a Plant Operations Expert to provide hands-on operating expertise across the lifecycle of mining projects, ensuring safe, productive, and efficient facilities from design through operation.

The role collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and clients to optimize startup, commissioning, and ramp-up, while developing SOPs, operating philosophies, and performance monitoring tools. Strong English skills are required, with travel to Canada and abroad as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Mechanical, Mining, or Process Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral processing plant operations.
  • Experience supporting plant startup, commissioning, and ramp-up.
  • Exposure to EPCM projects is a strong asset.
  • Solid knowledge of crushing, grinding, flotation, gravity concentration, thickening, filtration, tailings, reagent systems, and utility systems.
  • Strong knowledge of process optimization, production planning, KPIs, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational expertise during conceptual studies, feasibility studies, basic engineering, and detailed design.
  • Review plant layouts, equipment arrangements, and operating philosophies to optimize safety, accessibility, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, operability studies, constructability reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Develop operational readiness strategies and transition plans from construction to operations.
  • Support the development of operating philosophies, SOPs, startup and shutdown procedures.
  • Develop commissioning, startup, and ramp-up strategies in collaboration with the commissioning and process teams.
  • Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and performance testing activities.
  • Support process optimization during initial plant operation and production ramp-up.
  • Identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements to maximize throughput, recovery, and plant availability.
  • Assist in staffing plans, shift structures, operator competency, and training programs.
  • Prepare operating manuals, troubleshooting guides, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Analyze plant performance data and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor client operations personnel during startup.
  • Travel to project sites in Canada and internationally as required.

Job description

Reporting to the Vice-President of Process & Commissioning, the Plant Operations Expert will provide operational expertise throughout the lifecycle of mining projects, ensuring facilities are designed, commissioned, and transitioned into operation with safety, productivity, and operational excellence in mind.

The successful candidate will leverage practical plant operating experience to support engineering, commissioning, operational readiness, startup, and plant optimization. Acting as the voice of the future operator, they will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and clients to ensure facilities are safe, efficient, and ready for sustainable production.

Responsibilities
  • Provide operational expertise during conceptual studies, feasibility studies, basic engineering, and detailed design.
  • Review plant layouts, equipment arrangements, and operating philosophies to optimize safety, accessibility, productivity, and operational efficiency.

  • Mentor client operations personnel and provide operational coaching during startup.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts during commissioning and early operations.
  • Travel to project sites in Canada and internationally as required.
Requirement
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Mechanical, Mining, or Process Engineering, or an equivalent combination of technical education and extensive plant operations experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral processing plant operations, including supervisory or operational leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong operational experience in gold, base metals, lithium, or other mineral processing facilities.
  • Experience supporting plant startup, commissioning, and production ramp-up.
  • Previous experience working on EPCM projects is considered a strong asset.
  • Solid understanding of crushing, grinding, flotation, gravity concentration, thickening, filtration, tailings, reagent systems, and utility systems.
  • Strong knowledge of process optimization, production planning, operational KPIs, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience developing operating procedures and training plant personnel.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities with experience working in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
  • Fluency in English is required; French, Spanish, or Portuguese would be considered assets.
