Plant Manager – Bakery Manufacturing

About the Company:

Our client is a rapidly growing bakery manufacturer dedicated to producing high-quality baked goods for retail markets. With a commitment to innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement, they are seeking a dynamic and experienced Plant Manager to lead their operations.

Position Overview:

As the Plant Manager, you will oversee all aspects of production, ensure operational excellence, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. You will lead a high-performing team, optimize efficiency, and enhance overall plant performance while maintaining the highest quality, safety, and compliance standards. This role requires a strategic leader with a hands-on approach, strong problem-solving abilities, and a proven track record of improving operational efficiencies within a food manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership:
    • Oversee daily plant operations, including production, maintenance, quality control, and logistics, ensuring seamless execution of manufacturing processes.
    • Develop and implement strategies to optimize production efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
    • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and improve plant performance.
    • Lead Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives to drive efficiency, cost savings, and operational excellence.
    • Identify opportunities for automation, process enhancements, and capacity expansion.
    • Implement best practices in production scheduling, inventory management, and supply chain coordination.
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a strong operational team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
    • Drive employee engagement and retention through effective leadership and professional development initiatives.
    • Ensure proper staffing, training, and succession planning to support business growth.
  • Financial & Strategic Planning:
    • Manage plant budgets, control operational costs, and drive profitability through efficiency improvements.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term strategic planning, capacity expansion, and investment in new technologies.
    • Participate in capital projects, equipment upgrades, and facility improvements to support growth objectives.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in plant management within a food manufacturing environment, preferably in the bakery sector.
  • Strong background in Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement (CI), and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Proven ability to optimize processes, increase efficiency, and drive operational excellence.
  • Hands-on leadership style with the ability to develop high-performing teams.
  • Expertise in food safety regulations, HACCP, GMP, and SQF certification requirements.
  • Experience managing budgets, controlling costs, and improving financial performance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and execute operational plans effectively.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Food Science, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
