AtkinsRéalis Group is seeking a senior engineer for the Computer Systems Engineering department in Canada. The role involves leading technical and commercial interfaces on large-scale nuclear projects, designing safety/control systems, and evaluating vendor products for software integration.

The candidate will manage schedules and budgets, prepare change requests, and develop tools for test and development environments while contributing to V&V activities.

Qualifications

  • Honours degree in a relevant field of engineering; PE license preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of nuclear power generation or related industry experience.
  • Experience with industry and/or international I&C/software standards is an asset.
  • Strong background in computer hardware is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as prime technical and commercial interface with the client and internal groups on large projects.
  • Participate in conceptual design of safety/control systems and evaluate performance.
  • Evaluate vendor products and prepare procedures for implementing such products into software design and V&V processes.
  • Manage work, schedules, budgets and report progress to meet goals.
  • Prepare requirements and develop tools for test/development systems for safety-critical software.
  • Execute software engineering tasks including requirements, design, coding, testing and documentation.
  • Assist in planning activities for design, verification and testing of computerized safety/control systems.
  • Develop software and scripts using IEC61131-3 languages, C/C++, Visual Studio, LabVIEW, XML.
  • Test script development using in-house scripting languages.
  • Update design documents including SRS/SDD and software manuals.
  • Interface with engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other divisions.

Job Description
Overview

The Computer Systems Engineering department is responsible for digital instrumentation and control equipment for projects involving control, monitoring, and operator displays in the nuclear island for our existing customers and new builds. The department is responsible for digital system design, equipment selection and procurement, and all software activities.

Your role
  • Responsible for prime technical and commercial interface with the client and internal engineering and commercial groups on projects of substantial scale and complexity.

  • Participate in conceptual design of safety/control systems to define system requirements, computer system architecture/design, product /tool technologies and evaluate system performance and reliability.

  • Evaluate computer vendor products and prepare procedures/guides for implementing such products into computer software design, development and V&V processes.

  • Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget and reporting to meet project goals

  • Preparation of system/software change request for modifications to existing systems/software

  • Prepare requirements and develop tools for test/development systems as needed for production of safety critical software

  • Execute software engineering tasks including software requirements specification, software design description, coding, verification, testing and documentation

  • Asist in planning activities associated with design, verification and testing of computerized safety/control systems

  • Develop software and scripts using a variety of programming languages/toolsets/environments including, but not limited to IEC61131-3 languages, C C++ Visual Studio, Labview, XML.

  • Test script development using in-house developed scripting languages for software/system V&V testing

  • Update and/or prepare computer engineering design documents including SRS/SDD and software manuals

  • Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other divisions within the company

About you
  • Honours degree in a relevant field of engineering from a university of recognized standing. Professional Engineering license preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in nuclear power generation or related industries
  • Experience with industry and/or international I&C/software standards is considered an asset
  • Strong background in computer hardware is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrate good technical skills and problem-solving capabilities and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
