Job summary

Piston Automotive in Mississauga, Ontario, is seeking a Plant Controls Engineer to maintain and optimize PLC-based control systems and production tooling. You will troubleshoot, implement process changes, and drive continual improvement while mentoring maintenance staff.

Required: 2+ years in controls engineering, a related engineering degree, and experience with Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, Cognex/Keyence vision systems, and PanelView/HMI platforms.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; experience may substitute for degree.
• Minimum 2 years as a Controls Engineer or Maintenance Technician.
• Experience maintaining robots in production.
• Familiar with JIT, SPD, ILVS and Batch manufacturing systems.
• Strong knowledge of manual and automated assembly systems and technologies.
• Proficient with Studio 5000 Logix Designer, FactoryTalk View Studio, AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize machine performance using PLC data.
• Lead root cause analysis for systemic and intermittent issues.
• Select and integrate error-proofing devices for quality concerns.
• Understand and maintain machine ethernet networks.
• Conduct regular audits on safety control programs and devices.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement assigned projects.
• Interface with automation and capital equipment vendors.
• During new equipment launches transfer all docs to production plant prior to SOP.
• Lead initiatives in new product/process manufacturing and improvements.
• Develop preventive maintenance programs with plant management.
• Support controls-related issues to minimize downtime.
• Guide maintenance technicians to develop skills and strengthen the team.
• Ensure peak efficiency and safety of manufacturing machinery.
• Assist in installation and maintenance of machines and tools.
• Analyze equipment needs and requisition tools and spare parts.
• Identify and implement efficiency improvements to reduce costs.
