Job summary

Seaspan Victoria Shipyards is seeking a Planner III to lead the creation and maintenance of the project schedule for repair and overhaul programs, based on contract and production data.   • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business is preferred.
  • 5+ years planning and scheduling experience is required.
  • Experience in ship/submarine repair and overhaul or shipbuilding is desirable.
  • Certification by an accredited society in Planning, Production Control and/or Project Management is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Experience using Power-BI and SAP Business Intelligence.
  • Knowledge of EVMS principles and their application in monitoring, reporting and controlling work activities.
  • Knowledge of Agile/Kanban is an asset.
  • Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize contract docs and estimating sheets to create Production Schedules.
  • Develop detailed planning and scheduling templates for a consistent format feeding into the master schedule.
  • Develop and maintain resource profiles for the submarine program to provide forecasting information.
  • Prepare and distribute regular update reports showing resource status, schedule performance, and variances.
  • Support EVMS reports to identify program status, cost, and schedule performance.
  • Develop and maintain P6 templates for the project plans.
  • Provide quality control of plans produced by other planner schedulers.
  • Maintain department SOPs and department metrics.

Job Description

We are seeking premier talent to join Seaspan Victoria Shipyards team and work alongside others who complete project plans and share a passion in ship repair strategies.

Planner III is an influencing role which focuses on the creation and maintenance of the project schedule for repair and overhaul programs.

In this role, you will be responsible for the development of planning and scheduling of tasks relative to repair and conversion projects. Key responsibilities include developing detailed production schedule incorporating material, engineering and productions plans, resources profiles and schedules, development and upkeep of department templates, Standard Operating Procedures and metrics.

You will have strong influential, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to connect with others with tact and subtlety. Using your great personal skills, you will be able to stay focused on customer service and compliment this with a demonstrated desire to establish relationships that cultivate trust and dedication.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 825 Admirals Road, Victoria.

What You’ll Do
  • Utilize contract documentation and estimating work/material sheets to create Production Schedules
  • Develop the detail planning and scheduling template to provide a consistent format for use in a variety of areas that will feed into the integrated master schedule. Ensure that a process to regularly update information is developed and communicated across the various functions.
  • Develop and maintain individual and integrated resource profiles for the submarine program to provide forecasting information to all functional areas for preplanning activities.
  • Prepare and distribute regular update reports that provide program resource status, schedule performance and identify variances to performance plans.
  • Support the preparation of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) reports that identify program status, cost, and schedule performance.
  • Develop and maintain P6 templates for the project plans bases on functional requirements.
  • Provide quality control of the plans that are produced by other planner schedulers.
  • Maintain department Standard Operating Procedures and department metrics.
What You’ll Bring
  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business is preferred. Trades certificated combined with scheduling experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years planning and scheduling experience is required. Scheduling experience in ship/submarine repair and overhaul or shipbuilding is desirable.
  • Certification by an accredited society in Planning, Production Control and/or Project Management is desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of ship repair with a detailed understanding of the relationship between procurement, production, test and reactivation operations.
  • Proficiency working with scheduling software including Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Experience using Power-BI and SAP Business Intelligence.
  • Knowledge of EVMS principles and their application in monitoring, reporting and controlling work activities.
  • Knowledge of Agile/Kanban methodologies would be an asset.
  • Strong problem solving skills, analytical abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solving.
  • Ability to work with limited direction and to function as a key team member.
  • Eligible for NATO Secret Clearance and Controlled Goods clearance.

The estimated salary for this position is $99,000 - $121,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
