Job summary

The City of North Vancouver is seeking a temporary full-time Plan Checker 1 for approximately eighteen months to join the Planning, Development & Real Estate Department. You will review plans for various building types to ensure compliance with the provincial code and city bylaws, and assist homeowners, contractors and the public with permit matters.

The role requires a Diploma of Technology in Building or related discipline, BOABC Level III qualification or enrollment in BOIT, and strong

Qualifications

• Diploma of Technology in Building or related discipline and related experience in plan checking.
• BOABC Level III “Qualified” for Building Officials, or enrolled in BOIT and on track to be Qualified within timeline.
• Strong knowledge of bylaws, acts and regulations; ability to read plans and surveys.

Responsibilities

• Review plans for commercial, industrial, residential and other buildings to ensure compliance with provincial building code and municipal by-laws.
• Provide information and interpretation to homeowners, contractors and the public on permit applications and related regulations.
• Support other development applications and inspect signs/canopies for by-law compliance.
