Piping Support Designer / Piping Stress Analyst

AtkinsRéalis is currently seeking an Intermediate Piping Support Designer / Piping Stress Analyst to join our Candu Energy Inc. engineering team in Mississauga, Ontario.

Your role within the team:

This position requires a self-motivated individual capable of working independently or under the supervision of senior technical engineers. The candidate should follow instructions from a qualified professional engineer to complete mechanical scopes or tasks and develop necessary engineering documentation.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Involvement in conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design and analysis of piping and support systems, providing prompt resolutions on critical issues.
  • Performing pipe stress evaluations for nuclear and non-nuclear piping systems according to ASME and other relevant codes, including thermal, fatigue, seismic, linear, and nonlinear analyses.
  • Preparing engineering computations and analyses using software such as PipeStress, AutoPipe, MathCAD, GT STRUDL, and ANSYS.
  • Modeling complex piping and support arrangements using finite element techniques.
  • Reviewing technical documents and drawings, calculations, reports, design requirements, specifications, and data sheets.
  • Supporting the preparation of TSSA CRN registration packages for pressure boundary systems.
  • Providing technical guidance to designers, drafters, and junior staff.
  • Acting as a technical interface with clients, suppliers, multidisciplinary teams, and project management.
  • Performing site visits as needed for client and supplier assessments.
  • Supporting field construction and execution activities, including site visits.
  • Adhering to AtkinsRéalis and Candu Energy QA programs, codes, standards, and regulations.
The ideal candidate:
  • Holds an engineering degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent recognized by PEO.
  • Is eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • Has 2-5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering within heavy industrial environments, with knowledge of nuclear power systems being an asset.
  • Possesses working knowledge of CSA and ASME standards related to pressure boundary components and reactor systems.
  • Has experience in stress analysis using PipeStress, AutoPipe, MathCAD, GT STRUDL, or similar software.
  • Can apply technical principles practically to resolve engineering issues.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
Other aspects:
  • Must be eligible for security clearance through PWGSC.
  • May need to obtain Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) status.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites is required.
