Job summary

Canadian Natural in Calgary is seeking a Pipeline Control Centre Operator to oversee two heavy oil pipelines via a SCADA system, ensuring safe, efficient operations and regulatory compliance.

You will be responsible for real-time control of pumping, blending, and terminal operations; monitor system integrity, respond to alarms, and collaborate with field teams for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years oil and gas operations experience and solid decision making in fast paced environments.
  • Deep understanding of pipeline operations, flow dynamics and blending processes.
  • Experience with SCADA/HMI and real-time system monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Take command of critical pipeline operations, ensuring safe and efficient product movement.
  • Lead real-time control of pumping, blending, and terminal operations to ensure quality and delivery.
  • Monitor system integrity using SCADA and leak detection technologies; respond to alarms.
  • Observe pressures, flow rates, custody transfer and instrumentation to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with field operations, production and marketing to troubleshoot and optimize processes.
  • Operate on a 7-on/7-off schedule in Calgary and support safe energy transport.

The Pipeline Control Centre Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of two independently operated heavy oil pipelines, controlled by a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system in Calgary. This position will gain wide exposure across a broad range of Canadian Natural’s core business, and will provide genuine potential for training, development and career growth.

  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 7 x 7, 12-hour shifts (There could be flexibility in the work schedule during the initial training period)
  • Safety sensitive position: No
Key Accountabilities:
  • Take command of critical pipeline operations, overseeing the safe and efficient movement of product from Canadian Natural battery sites to terminal storage facilities while optimizing system performance
  • Lead real-time control of pumping, blending, and terminal operations, ensuring product quality, volume accuracy, and seamless delivery to market
  • Leverage advanced SCADA and leak detection technologies to monitor system integrity, analyze performance trends, respond to alarms, and proactively mitigate operational risks
  • Drive operational excellence by monitoring pressures, flow rates, custody transfer systems, instrumentation, and quality data to ensure regulatory compliance and operational reliability
  • Partner with field operations, production, and marketing teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize processes, and maintain safe, high-performing pipeline and terminal operations
  • Join a high-impact team operating on a 7-on/7-off rotational schedule in Calgary, where your decisions directly support the safe, efficient movement of energy across the network
What You Bring to the Role:
  • 5+ years of oil and gas operations experience combined with a Grade 12 diploma or GED, with a proven track record of making sound decisions in fast-paced operational environments. Post-secondary technological certificate an asset.
  • Strong understanding of pipeline operations, including flow dynamics, hydraulics, product movement, and blending processes that support safe and efficient energy transportation
  • Technical aptitude across mechanical, process control, and automation systems, with the ability to quickly identify issues and optimize operational performance
  • Experience working with SCADA/HMI platforms and operational monitoring tools, enabling you to confidently manage real-time systems and respond effectively to changing conditions
  • Exceptional multitasking and communication skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure, balance competing priorities, and leverage Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook) to support operational excellence
