Job summary

North Borealis Logistics seeks a Pilot Truck Driver to guide pilot vehicles in heavy haul operations across Canada and the United States. You will load, secure, and escort freight while maintaining safety and compliance.

The role requires CDL, pilot car experience or willingness to certify in the USA, and the ability to be away from home for extended periods. Pay is commission-based and per-day.

In this role, you will expertly guide and assist large commercial vehicles, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight across various routes in Canada and the United States. Responsibilities


  • Safely operate pilot trucks attached to our heavy haul operation, guiding the main tractor-trailer through complex routes and tight spaces.

  • Assist in maneuvering freight loads, ensuring secure loading and unloading procedures.

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the pilot truck to verify mechanical condition, safety features, and compliance with regulations.

  • Communicate clearly with dispatchers, drivers, and site personnel to coordinate movements and relay important updates.

  • Support the movement of freight by escorting or leading trucks through congested or challenging areas to prevent accidents or delays.

  • Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, routes taken, and any incidents or mechanical issues encountered during shifts.

  • Follow all safety protocols and traffic laws diligently to uphold a safe working environment for yourself and others.

  • Must have previous Pilot Car experience and be certified or willing to be certified in the USA.

  • Must have a valid Passport

  • Must be able to be away from home for extended periods of time.

  • Must be willing to work on a commission based pay schedule


Skills


  • Strong mechanical knowledge to perform routine vehicle inspections and troubleshoot minor issues effectively.

  • Proven experience in commercial driving with a valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).

  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with team members, dispatchers, and clients clearly and professionally.

  • Experience moving freight across various routes, demonstrating reliability and punctuality under tight schedules.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations related to commercial trucking and freight handling practices.

  • Energetic attitude with a focus on precision, safety, and efficient freight movement.
