Job summary

ENTREC Alberta, part of the LAPRAIRIE Group, is recruiting a Picker/Rigger to join our Fort McMurray team. The role involves working with Picker Winch and Bed trucks, performing rigging tasks, and ensuring safety through proper signaling and load handling.

Candidates should be able to work 14/7 or 21/7 shifts, pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening, and have solid communication skills. Fort McMurray camp-based position with potential for competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Availability to work rotational shifts, days/nights.
• Able to run 45 tonnes/swing cab.
• Experience with Picker and Bed Truck is an asset.
• Willingness to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol clearance.

Responsibilities

• Work with Picker Winch and Bed trucks.
• Signal or verbally direct workers to ensure safety.
• Test rigging for safety and reliability.
• Select gear (cables, pulleys, winches) per load.
• Tilt, dip, and turn loads to maneuver obstacles.
• Install ground rigging for yarding lines and logs.
• Align, level and anchor machinery.
• Attach loads to rigging for movement.
• Fabricate and repair rigging, hoists and gear.
• Move materials using rigging lines and hoists.
• Inspect and wash equipment; perform pre/post trip checks.
• Pilot operation for oversize loads.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Work with Picker Winch and Bed trucks.
• Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
• Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
• Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
• Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
• Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and then to the lines.
• Align, level, and anchor machinery.
• Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
• Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
• Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets.
• Clean and dress machine surfaces and component parts. Wash equipment as requested by Supervisor.
• Perform pre and post trip inspections on Jack & Slide Equipment.
• Perform pilot operation for oversize loads.
• Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
• Operate CAT and John Deere skid steers.
• Load and unload trucks and trailers
• Perform other duties as required

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Availability to work rotational shifts, including days and nights. Work will be based in Fort McMurray camp and successful candidates will have a choice between 14/7 or 21/7 shifts.
• Able to run 45 tonnes/swing cab.
• Previous Picker and Bed Truck experience is considered an asset.

• Experienced in using OHS hand signals for spotting mobile cranes and mobile equipment.

• Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol clearance.
• Solid communication skills.
• Ability to navigate work sites and adapt to daily changes in scopes of work.
• Acceptable drivers abstract.
