Job summary

A healthcare provider in the region is seeking a Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) in Thornbury, Ontario. The role involves assisting residents with treatment programs, documenting progress, and performing various therapy treatments under supervision. Ideal candidates are graduates of a Physiotherapy Assistant program, possess strong multi-tasking and communication skills, and have experience in a Long Term Care setting. A current police check and health clearance are also required.

Qualifications

• Graduate or equivalent in Physiotherapy Assistant program.
• Excellent multi-tasking and pressure management skills.
• Experience in Long Term Care environments is an asset.
• Experience in a Long Term Care or Retirement home is an asset.
• Current police check for the Vulnerable Sector is required.
• Valid TB Test and/or Chest X‑Ray is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with group and one-on-one exercises as directed.
• Encourage residents to achieve their treatment goals.
• Document treatments and track residents' progress.
• Assist residents with walking, sitting, and safe transferring.
• Monitor changes in residents’ health and report to the Physiotherapist or supervisor.
• Perform treatments such as ice packs, ultrasound, TENS, hot wax, etc.

Job description

We are currently looking for a Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) for a Long Term Care client in Thornbury, Ontario. Working under the direct or indirect supervision of the Physiotherapist, our assistants will work in close contact with residents to help them implement treatment programs and achieve the goals set out for them.

Schedule: 35 HOURS PER WEEK - Needed as of May 30th.

Job Duties:

• Assist with conducting group exercises for residents, and/or lead one‑on‑one exercises with the assigned resident as directed by the Physiotherapist.
• Encourage residents to reach the goals of their planned treatment programs if appropriate.
• Document treatments and residents' progress after each therapy session per the Physiotherapist’s instructions.
• Assist residents with walking, sitting, and safe transferring.
• Monitor any changes to a resident’s health status and report to the Physiotherapist or supervisor.
• Perform treatments such as applying an ice pack or hot pack, ultrasound therapy, TENS (electrotherapy), hot wax, etc.

Qualifications:

• Must be a Physiotherapy Assistant graduate or equivalent.
• Excellent multi‑tasking skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
• Ability to communicate well with the elderly, supervisors, and teammates.
• Experience working in a Long Term Care or Retirement home would be a definite asset.
• Current police check for the Vulnerable Sector is required.
• Valid TB Test and/or Chest X‑Ray is required.
