Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority in the Eastern Zone is seeking a Physiotherapy Assistant to join the Rehabilitation Services team at Glace Bay Hospital. The PTA supports education, promotes health, and helps patients to improve function across all stages of illness under the physiotherapist's guidance.

The role involves implementing treatment plans, taking part in assessments, communicating with the team, and contributing to high-quality, safe care.

Qualifications

  • Completed an accredited Rehabilitation Assistant Program (or diploma).
  • BLS-C certification.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, their families and health care team members.
  • Cooperative and possesses excellent interpersonal skills to work with physiotherapy and health care team members.
  • Organizational ability to complete assigned work and manage staffing and caseloads.
  • Experience with physically and/or cognitively impaired people is an asset.
  • Knowledge of body mechanics, anatomy, basic computer skills, and physiotherapy interventions.
  • French language skills are an asset.

About the Opportunity

The Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) is an active member of the health care team who works with individuals, families and groups to educate, promote health, and increase or maintain function and activity throughout all stages of health and complexities of illness. As part of an inter-professional team, the PTA works effectively to provide optimal physiotherapy care and to assist the patient in achieving their physiotherapy goals. The PTA motivates and encourages the patient to meet their expected outcomes by contributing to the valuation, implementation and ongoing modification of the patient’s physiotherapy program and by participating in the provision of holistic and comprehensive physiotherapy care. PTAs can complete standardized outcome measures as part of the physiotherapist's assessment and implement assigned physiotherapy treatment plans, in alignment with national and provincial physiotherapy standards. The PTA is responsible to communicate frequently with the physiotherapist and to obtain the relevant information to provide safe accountable care. The PTA incorporates critical thinking, effective communication, and formal education to deliver high quality of care to patients.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Completed an accredited Rehabilitation Assistant Program (or diploma)
  • BLS-C
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, their families and health care team members
  • Must be cooperative and possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work with physiotherapy and health care team members
  • Organizational ability to complete assigned work and manage changing staffing and caseload levels
  • Previous experience working with physically and/or cognitively impaired people is an asset
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics, anatomy, basic computer skills and training in electro-physical agents and other physiotherapy specific interventions
  • Knowledge of common diseases and disabilities as well as the treatments, precautions and contraindications for them
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
Compensation and Benefits

$25.84- $30.85 Hourly
