Job description

We are currently looking for a Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) for a Long Term Care client in Lancaster, Ontario. Working under the direct or indirect supervision of the Physiotherapist, our assistants will work in close contact with residents to help them implement treatment programs and achieve the goals set out for them.


Schedule:

  1. 25 hours per week (TEMPORARY COVERAGE: March 3-14 2025) -will become PERMANENT in May 2025.

Job Duties:

  1. Assist with conducting group exercises for residents, and/or lead one-on-one exercises with the assigned resident as directed by the Physiotherapist.
  2. Encourage residents to reach the goals of their planned treatment programs if appropriate.
  3. Document treatments and residents' progress after each therapy session per the Physiotherapist’s instructions.
  4. Assist residents with walking, sitting, and safe transferring.
  5. Monitor any changes to a resident’s health status and report to the Physiotherapist or supervisor.
  6. Perform treatments such as applying an ice pack or hot pack, ultrasound therapy, TENS (electrotherapy), hot wax, etc.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be a Physiotherapy Assistant graduate or equivalent.
  2. Excellent multi-tasking skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  3. Ability to communicate well with the elderly, supervisors, and teammates.
  4. Experience working in a Long Term Care or Retirement home would be a definite asset.
  5. Current police check for the Vulnerable Sector is required.
  6. Valid 2 STEP TB Test and/or Chest X-Ray is required.
  7. Access to a reliable vehicle with Valid Drivers License is required (This position is NOT ACCESSIBLE BY BUS).
  8. We will NOT consider RELOCATION - Must be a resident of Lancaster Area.
