Join to apply for the Physiotherapist I role at Alberta Health Services

Your Opportunity:

As part of Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), the Rehabilitation Oncology (RO) team—which includes Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology, Therapy Assistants, and Physiatry—is growing! Our program has moved to the new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (ACCC), and we are looking for skilled and compassionate Physiotherapists to join our team in a casual role supporting inpatient units. Why Choose CCA? At Cancer Care Alberta, you’ll make a meaningful impact by supporting cancer patients in managing physical and functional challenges and enhancing their overall well-being. You'll be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that values teamwork, ongoing learning, and self-care.

Under general supervision of the Manager, the Physiotherapist (PT) will triage and screen referrals, develop, implement, and evaluate personalized rehabilitation plans to help patients manage symptoms and side effects of cancer treatment. The PT will participate in case consultation, rounds, and discharge planning, creating well-supported transitions across the continuum of care. The PT is a mentor to staff and students, offering placements and job shadow experiences. The PT will participate in cross-coverage across inpatient units, including Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), and Hematology. The ideal candidate is available to work at least 1-2 shifts per week (Monday to Friday, no weekends) between 0800-1630 hours to support orientation, staff education, and caseload coverage.

Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness, and functional decline. Your responsibilities include prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral, and transition support to individuals, groups, populations, and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the healthcare team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care.

You will collaborate with patients and families to determine, implement, and evaluate appropriate rehabilitation strategies, participate in interprofessional teams, contribute to quality improvement, and engage in peer mentoring and supervision of students, Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides, and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university, current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta, and a minimum of 1 year of experience in adult inpatient rehabilitation. Preferred qualifications include 3 years of urban inpatient experience, experience in neurorehabilitation, palliative/end-of-life care, wound care, and knowledge of discharge planning resources.
