Your Opportunity:

Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) is an Acute Care hospital with over 1,100 beds. It is the Trauma Centre for Southern Alberta, Eastern British Columbia and Western Saskatchewan. FMC has a Neuro Tertiary Unit as well as the majority of In-Patient Neurological services in Calgary. This is a rotational position with the potential to provide coverage on any unit or service as required. The current rotation is in Acute Neurology, and the next scheduled rotation will be in Medicine. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. The successful incumbent will show proficiencies in the following areas: Interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team. Self-direction and independent decision making, sound clinical judgment and critical thinking skills. Time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic and challenging environment. Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.
Additional Required Qualifications:
  • Experience within the last year providing Physical Therapy interventions to adult patients in an acute hospital setting. BLS for Health Care Providers Level C CPR certification issued within the last 12 months prior to commencement of employment. Ability to physically manage repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a large urban acute care centre in the past year. Experience with inpatient neuro populations (stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury) is an asset. Experience with complex chest therapy is an asset.
