Physiotherapist, Critical Care

BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre
Vancouver, BC

The Physiotherapist focuses on promoting physical function, fitness, and motor performance to contribute to a client's/patient's overall cognitive, perceptual, social, and emotional well-being within a client and family-centered care model for an assigned area within Children's & Women's Health Centre, a Provincial Resource Centre. In accordance with established Physiotherapy standards of professional practice and using advanced knowledge, clinical theory, and evidence-based practice gained through additional education, training, and experience, the Physiotherapist provides therapeutic, clinical, diagnostic, and preventative services to clients, families, and the community to develop functional solutions for daily challenges in clients' lives and environments. The Physiotherapist applies in-depth knowledge of musculoskeletal growth and development, biomechanics of human movement, kinesiology, pathology, cardiorespiratory function, and neurology. The Physiotherapist also participates in program development, education, and research activities.

What you'll do
  1. Provide Physiotherapy assessments using advanced skills, knowledge, and clinical reasoning within the assigned area.
  2. Develop and implement Physiotherapy treatment programs, creating innovative solutions for assessment and treatment issues.
  3. Document clinical data, assessments, treatment plans, progress reports, and care plans.
  4. Assess the need for specific equipment and adaptations, assisting clients and families in obtaining necessary items by communicating with agencies and suppliers.
  5. Maintain communication with clients, families, and caregivers to foster optimal progress through supportive and collaborative relationships.
  6. Develop and participate in client and family education and establish treatment/care programs.
  7. Participate in multidisciplinary teams, providing consultation and clinical advice to ensure quality care.
  8. Contribute to professional committees and programs, promoting improvements in physiotherapy and interdisciplinary practice.
What you bring

Qualifications

  • Current full registration as a Physiotherapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC
  • At least two years of recent related experience, including one year working with the designated patient population at BC Children's Hospital or BC Women's Hospital and Health Centre, or equivalent education, training, and experience. Plus 50 hours of postgraduate coursework related to the area.
  • Knowledge of the impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples, with a commitment to anti-racism and cultural safety.
  • Understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments related to Indigenous health and rights, including TRC Calls to Action, In Plain Sight, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, UNDRIP, and others.

  • Understanding of Indigenous-specific and systemic racism, with demonstrated leadership in fostering an environment of belonging.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, and political realities affecting Indigenous Peoples and equity groups, with a commitment to ongoing education and advocacy.

  • Effective communication skills in groups, one-on-one, and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize workload, and provide effective consultation.
  • Commitment to personal learning about Indigenous health issues, cultural safety, and DEI principles.
