Qualifications

  • Current registration as a Physiotherapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
  • At least 2 years of recent related experience, including one year at BC Children’s Hospital or BC Women’s Hospital.

BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre

Location: Vancouver, BC

The Physiotherapist focuses on promoting physical function, fitness, and motor performance to contribute to a client’s/patient’s overall well-being within a client and family-centered care model at the Children’s & Women’s Health Centre, a Provincial Resource Centre. Using advanced knowledge, clinical theory, and evidence-based practice, the Physiotherapist provides therapeutic, diagnostic, and preventative services to develop functional solutions for clients and their environments. The role requires in-depth knowledge of musculoskeletal growth, biomechanics, kinesiology, pathology, and neurology. The Physiotherapist also participates in program development, education, and research activities.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct physiotherapy assessments using advanced skills and clinical reasoning within the assigned area.
  • Develop and implement treatment programs, applying advanced clinical knowledge and innovative assessment and treatment solutions.
  • Document clinical data, assessments, treatment plans, and progress reports.
  • Assess equipment needs, including home and lifestyle adaptations, and assist clients and families in obtaining necessary equipment by communicating with agencies and suppliers.
  • Maintain communication with clients, families, and caregivers to foster progress through supportive, collaborative relationships.
  • Develop and participate in client and family education programs.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teamwork, providing consultation and clinical advice to ensure quality care.
  • Participate in professional committees and programs, contributing to practice improvements and advocating for physiotherapy goals.
Qualifications
  • Current registration as a Physiotherapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
  • At least 2 years of recent related experience, including one year working with the designated patient population at BC Children’s Hospital or BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, or equivalent experience. Plus, 50 hours of postgraduate coursework related to the area.
  • Knowledge of the impacts of systemic racism and colonialism on Indigenous Peoples, with a commitment to anti-racism, cultural safety, and health equity, including familiarity with relevant legislation and reports such as the TRC Calls to Action, In Plain Sight, BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, UNDRIP, and others.

  • Understanding of Indigenous-specific racism and systemic barriers, with demonstrated leadership in fostering an environment of belonging. Embed Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility into all aspects of work.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political realities affecting Indigenous Peoples and strategies to address anti-racism and cultural safety.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Effective communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and establish workload priorities.
  • Ability to develop educational programs, provide effective consultation, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning about Indigenous health issues and anti-racism.
Additional Information

Every PHSA employee contributes to exceptional patient care and has access to professional development, benefits, and wellness resources. The position is full-time, temporary, with a wage range of $42.56 to $52.95 per hour, located at 4500 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC. Hours are Monday to Friday, 0800-1600. Requisition #183280E.
