Job summary

PharmaChoice in Canada is seeking a licensed pharmacist to lead a pharmacy team, ensuring patient-centred care and safe, compliant operations.

You will supervise pharmacists, technicians, and staff, maintain records and inventory, and develop policies aligned with Alberta ACP standards and regulations.

Qualifications

• Licensed pharmacist in Alberta and registered with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).
• Bachelor of Pharmacy or PharmD degree.
• Relevant pharmacy management experience.
• Knowledge of Alberta pharmacy legislation and standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise, mentor, and support pharmacists, technicians, students, and staff.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, ACP standards, and organisational procedures.
• Maintain adequate staffing and scheduling for safe practice.
• Develop, implement and review pharmacy policies and procedures.
• Ensure proper records, documentation, and regulatory compliance.

Job description

Patient safety and quality of care

• Ensure pharmacy services are safe, appropriate, and patient-centred.
• Maintain access to pharmacist services and ensure patient-care needs are addressed.

Supervision of pharmacy staff

• Lead, supervise, mentor, and support pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, students, and other pharmacy staff.
• Ensure team members understand and follow applicable legislation, standards, policies, and procedures.

Staffing and scheduling

• Ensure the pharmacy has adequate staffing to provide safe and effective pharmacy practice.

Compliance and regulations

• Ensure the pharmacy complies with the Pharmacy and Drug Act, regulations, ACP standards, Code of Ethics, and applicable federal requirements.
• Keep up to date with changes to legislation and professional standards.

Medication management

• Ensure appropriate drug storage, security, inventory systems, documentation, and processes for dispensing and handling medications.
• Ensure appropriate procedures are in place to reduce medication errors and protect patients.
• Develop, implement, and regularly review pharmacy policies and procedures.

Records and documentation

• Ensure required patient records, pharmacy records, controlled-drug documentation, and other regulatory records are properly maintained.
• Ensure the pharmacy environment, equipment, layout, security, and systems meet regulatory requirements.

Human resources and leadership

• Create a safe and professional workplace.
• Coach staff, address performance or practice concerns, and promote accountability and professionalism.
• Handle required communication with ACP, including pharmacy licence matters and reporting changes that require ACP approval or notification.
