As Canada’s largest mental health care provider, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) provides evidence to drive system and policy change through the implementation of innovations and novel service delivery interventions. The Brain Health Imaging Centre (BHIC) is one of the primary research areas of CAMH and focuses on new brain imaging tools and methods used in mental health and addictions for clinical neuroscience research.
Position Description:
The BHIC is currently seeking a full-time permanent PET Systems Engineer, reporting to the Manager, Engineering Division. The PET Systems Engineer is responsible for the routine maintenance and servicing of the BHIC medical cyclotrons, commercial and in-house built automated radiochemistry equipment, radiation safety systems, PET, CT, and MRI scanners for both human and preclinical use, with ancillary devices, related imaging equipment for preclinical studies, and associated computer networking infrastructure. These tasks will include operating the equipment, troubleshooting problems and performing repairs; maintenance and repair of imaging equipment and ancillary devices; the design, manufacturing, and testing of specialized devices for radiochemistry, PET imaging and physics experimentation and measurements; and the quality control of equipment and the development of quality assurance procedures to optimize the performance of the equipment and minimize device failure. This position is located on-site at 250 College Street.
Duties:
The successful candidate will possess a degree in a relevant engineering field in addition to a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the electrical/mechanical aspects of operating, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining cyclotrons, radiochemistry devices, PET and PET/CT scanners, radiation monitoring equipment, and PET ancillary equipment. Proficiency with setting up computer hardware is required, and computer programming and software (LabVIEW) as well as experience with networks, would be an asset. Experience in at least 5 of the 8 following areas is also an asset:
Knowledge of radiation safety regulations is required and experience working in a Class II facility is preferred. Knowledge of the guidelines and/or experience working in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment, or equivalent, is required. Experience supporting a specialized computer network infrastructure in a research and/or manufacturing environment is a requirement. You are able to work independently as well as effectively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. The duties of this position require that the PET Systems Engineer be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). Candidates require the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
Designation as a Nuclear Energy Worker is mandatory for this position and will be arranged for the successful candidate.
