Job summary

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) at Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care provides personal care to help residents with daily activities and hygiene, supporting physical, social and emotional needs in a safe, resident-centred approach.

Applicants should have Ontario PSW certificate, CPR, and preferably HSCPOA registration; strong customer service, teamwork, and computer skills (Point Click Care, MS Office; Workday asset) are valued.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved PSW course in Ontario, or equivalent.
  • Experience in long term care is an asset.
  • Current CPR Certificate.
  • Registration with HSCPOA preferred.
  • Resident-centred care focus with strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving and time management.
  • Ability to work independently as well as be a team player.
  • Computer literacy: Point Click Care, MS Office; basic knowledge of Workday an asset.
  • Ability to speak Chinese an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care to assist clients in daily activities and personal hygiene.
  • Support clients' physical, social and emotional needs in a safe, resident-centred manner.
  • Comply with government standards, residents' rights and organizational philosophy.
  • Work independently and as an active, positive team member; participate in shifts as required.
  • Participate in night shifts and weekends as needed.

Job description

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) will provide personal care to assist clients in their daily activities and personal hygiene. The PSW will support the clients' physical, social and emotional needs in a safe manner, in accordance with the organization's resident-centred approach, complying with relevant government standards, residents' rights and the organizations mission and philosophy.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved Personal Support Worker course in Ontario, or equivalent
  • Experience in long term care setting an asset
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Registration with Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) preferred.
  • Resident-centred care focus with strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem-solve and time manage
  • Ability to work independently as well as be an active, positive team player
  • Behavioural management training (Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA), U-First, CPI) an asset
  • Computer literacy (Point Click Care, MS Office).
  • Basic knowledge of Workday an asset.
  • Ability to speak and converse in Chinese an asset
Working Conditions
  • Considerable standing, walking, lifting and bending Exposure to all resident care elements through regular resident contact.
  • Ability to work night shifts, including weekends and short shifts.
  • May be required to work an alternate shift(s) to meet operational needs (e.g., emergency, training, accommodation, etc.) as per scheduling practices

This is a temporary part time position for 3 months
