Job summary

Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care is hiring a Personal Support Worker (Mixed Shift) for a temporary part-time 10-week assignment with extension potential. You will assist residents with daily living activities, observe changes, and support the care plan in a resident-centred environment at Yee Hong’s Canada campuses.

The role emphasizes independence, teamwork, and compassionate care; specific qualifications include an approved PSW course in Ontario, CPR, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Personal Support Worker course in Ontario, or equivalent.
  • Experience in long term care setting an asset.
  • CPR certificate; HSCPOA registration preferred.
  • Resident-centred care focus with strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, problem-solve and time manage.
  • Ability to work independently as well as be a team player.
  • Knowledge of GPA/U-First/CPI an asset.
  • Basic computer literacy; Workday knowledge an asset.
  • Chinese language ability is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and report changes in residents' condition; input into care plans and follow guidelines.
  • Adhere to LTC home legislation, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Deliver personal care to promote comfort and safety during activities of daily living.
  • Provide cognitive, social, emotional support to residents.
  • Promote independence and respect resident rights and privacy.
  • Assist with adaptive devices and maintain effective communication with residents and families.
  • Document accurately on flow sheets and daily records.
  • Participate as a team member with other departments to ensure quality care.
  • Assist in planning and care plan input; support staff and students as assigned.

Job description

Personal Support Worker (Mixed Shift) - Temporary Part-Time for 10 weeks, with possibility of extension

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) will provide personal care to assist clients in their daily activities and personal hygiene. The PSW will support the clients' physical, social and emotional needs in a safe manner, in accordance with the organization's resident-centred approach, complying with relevant government standards, residents' rights and the organizations mission and philosophy.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved Personal Support Worker course in Ontario, or equivalent
  • Experience in long term care setting an asset
  • Current CPR Certificate Registration with Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) preferred.
  • Resident-centred care focus with strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem-solve and time manage
  • Ability to work independently as well as be an active, positive team player
  • Behavioural management training (Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA), U-First, CPI) an asset
  • Computer literacy (Point Click Care, MS Office). Basic knowledge of Workday an asset.
  • Ability to speak and converse in Chinese an asset
Responsibilities
  • Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting changes in the residents' physical and emotional condition; provides input into the care plan and implements the guidelines in the plan
  • Adheres to the legislation, standards, policies and procedures of the LTC Home
  • Delivers personal care to promote comfort and safety for the resident during activities of daily living in accordance with the standards of resident care set out in the Nursing Manuals
  • Provides cognitive, social, emotional support to residents.
  • Promotes independence of resident in his/her activities of daily living.
  • Observes and respects resident's individual rights and choices.
  • Acknowledges the resident's need for dignity and Privacy
  • Assists the resident in the proper use and care of adaptive/prosthetic devices
  • Maintains effective communication and good relationship with residents, families and significant others
  • Participates as a team member in co-operation with other departments to ensure quality care of the resident.
  • Provides input into the plan of care
  • Documents accurately and legibly on flow sheets and daily records reflecting each resident's condition, care and specific needs
  • Assists in the care of resident's personal belongings
  • Complies with risk management and quality improvement programs, including infection prevention and control, occupational health and safety, incident and falls, etc.
  • Assists in the care of LTC home equipment by regular cleaning and inspection and prompt reporting of defects.
  • Provides job shadowing or mentorship to members of the health care team or students, as assigned
  • Practices nursing restorative care to complement and supplement rehabilitation care
  • Keeps up-to-date with developments and best practices in the field
  • Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions

Considerable standing, walking, lifting and bending Exposure to all resident care elements through regular resident contact. Ability to work mixed shifts, including weekends and short shifts. May be required to work an alternate shift(s) to meet operational needs (e.g., emergency, training, accommodation, etc.) as per scheduling practices

Salary Range: $25.41 - $27.62
