Qualifications accepted to work as a PSW:

• Valid Certificate as a Personal Support Worker (PSW)
• RN or RPN
• Nursing student with 2 clinical placements completed
• Home Support Level 2 or 3 certificate from a recognized curriculum
• Developmental Support Worker Certificate
• Foreign-trained healthcare professional – Nurse

Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license and vehicle for daily use
• Immunization compliance – MMR, Varicella, TB, Tetanus, Covid
• Current vulnerable sector check (VSC)
• Standard CPR level C and First Aid
• Availability to work evenings (3-11pm) and every other weekend
• Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting up to 55 pounds, walking, stairs, standing, bending, reaching, and frequent movement

To be eligible for the PSW ROS, a Personal Support Worker must:

New Graduates:

• Complete an Ontario PSW training program meeting the 2022 standards on or after April 1, 2023
• Begin employment between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2026
• Commit to 12 months of full-time employment

OR

Previous Graduates (NEW):

• Previously trained as a PSW
• Have not worked in a direct care role in Ontario in the past 12 months
• Begin employment between November 18, 2024, and March 31, 2026
• Commit to 12 months of full-time employment
