Job description

Employment Type: 6-month contract (from May 12, 2025, to November 16, 2025), PSW, Bargaining Unit (1 Vacancy)

Work Hours: Thursday to Saturday plus alternate Wednesday, 8 am to 8 pm (31.5 hours and 42 hours alternate week, excluding 1.5-hour unpaid meal break)

Work Setting: Exclusively onsite at 53 Pape Avenue, Toronto, Ontario
$23.21/hour

Program Overview – Assisted Living Services and Home and Cluster Care

The incumbent is responsible to the Supervisor for providing support services to clients as authorized by the Supervisor. Clients may live in their own homes or in an Assisted Living Service’s independent unit or Cluster Site. Responsibilities are both generic to the PSW role and specific to the program/site. Work may be scheduled hourly or in shifts.

What You Will Do
  1. Work based on program needs, client preferences, and PSW skill set.
  2. Deliver services in a professional and culturally sensitive manner.
  3. Follow all agency, unit, and program policies and procedures, including during orientation, training, and meetings.
  4. Provide services within the scope of practice permitted by your certification and policies.
  5. Comply with all health and safety policies.
  6. Perform physical tasks such as lifting (10-25 kgs), walking, bending, and operating equipment.
  7. Report injuries promptly and participate in return-to-work programs if needed.
  8. Confirm work schedules and respond to communication from the office.
  9. Use the Alayacare Mobile Application to clock in/out.
  10. Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
  11. Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and community partners.
  12. Follow routines and client care plans.
  13. Report to work as scheduled and notify if unable to attend.
  14. Prepare meals, modify menus, and manage groceries.
  15. Provide shift reports and operate emergency response procedures.
  16. Document accurately and timely in client records.
  17. Manage supplies and address maintenance issues promptly.
  18. Support clients' physical and mental activities.
Qualifications
  • Personal Support Worker Certificate and NACC Certificate (if applicable).
  • Minimum one year experience providing personal care to seniors or disabled adults.
Preferred Skills
  • Understanding of ADLs and iADLs support.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility, good judgment, and behavioral management knowledge.
  • Knowledge of gerontology, healthcare, and social services.
  • Food safety knowledge and physical capability for lifting and mobility.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
  • Proficiency with technology and adaptability to different locations.
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and respectful interaction skills.
  • Chinese speaking PSW preferred.
