Job Description
Personal Support Workers (PSW) are invited to apply for part-time positions at our Tendercare Living Centre, a 194-bed long-term care home located in Scarborough, Ontario. This role offers the opportunity to provide care and services to a maximum of eight residents.
Under the supervision of Registered Staff, the PSW provides direct personal and nursing care to residents, addressing their physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual needs in accordance with home policies, procedures, and routines.
Responsibilities
- Assist in providing direct care for residents, including ambulation, feeding, bathing, and grooming.
- Encourage participation in activity programs by assisting residents to and from activities.
- Assist with meal service and nourishment delivery, providing feeding assistance as needed.
- Offer emotional and social support to residents and families, including palliative care.
- Follow established policies and procedures regarding documentation, quality assurance, fire safety, environment, and infection control.
- Communicate with and inform supervisors about unit activities, resident care needs, and related matters.
- Participate in care conferences and documentation related to resident care plans.
Qualifications
- Completed a PSW Program meeting standards set by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the National Association of Career Colleges, or the Ontario Community Support Association; program must be at least 600 hours, including class and practical experience.
- Experience in nursing within long-term care is required.
- Knowledge of care planning systems and documentation is required.
- Ability to perform duties physically and mentally as required.
- Positive communication skills with staff, residents, and families.
- Proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin is an asset.
- Demonstrates empathy, concern, and a commitment to quality resident care.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to complete tasks timely.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Capable of providing resident care in accordance with legislation, routines, and care plans, and able to read, write, and understand English instructions.
