Job summary

Cartel Inc. in Toronto seeks a Personal Injury Lawyer to join its growing litigation team. You will manage a diverse caseload and take ownership from intake through resolution, working with senior lawyers on complex matters.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of personal injury litigation experience (plaintiff or defence).
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario civil litigation procedures and personal injury law.
  • Demonstrated advocacy, negotiation, and legal writing skills.
  • Experience managing files with increasing levels of independence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent client-service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of plaintiff personal injury matters from intake through settlement or trial.
  • Assess claims, develop litigation strategies, and provide practical legal advice to clients.
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, affidavits, mediation briefs, settlement proposals, correspondence, and other litigation materials.
  • Conduct and participate in examinations for discovery, mediations, pre-trial conferences, and settlement discussions.
  • Attend court and other litigation-related appearances as required.
  • Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel, insurers, and other parties.
  • Work closely with senior counsel on complex, high-value, and strategically significant matters.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and ensure they remain informed throughout the litigation process.
  • Review medical, employment, financial, and other evidence relevant to liability and damages.
  • Coordinate with experts, medical professionals, and other litigation professionals where appropriate.
  • Maintain organized files and ensure deadlines, procedural requirements, and limitation periods are properly managed.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and participate in the ongoing development of the firm's personal injury practice.

The Role

As a Personal Injury Lawyer, you will manage a diverse caseload and play an active role in files from initial assessment through resolution.
