Job summary

Cartel Inc. is recruiting a Personal Injury Lawyer to join its growing litigation team in Toronto. This role targets lawyers with 2–5 years of personal injury litigation experience, adaptable to both plaintiff and defence sides, and who will benefit from mentorship within a sophisticated, high-volume practice.

You will manage diverse files from intake to resolution, grow ownership of matters, and collaborate with senior litigators on complex cases while delivering strong client service.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of experience in personal injury litigation (plaintiff or defence).
• Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Strong understanding of Ontario civil litigation procedures and personal injury law.
• Demonstrated advocacy, negotiation, and legal writing skills.
• Experience managing files with increasing levels of independence.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of plaintiff personal injury matters from intake through settlement or trial.
• Assess claims, develop litigation strategies, and provide practical legal advice to clients.
• Draft and review pleadings, motions, affidavits, mediation briefs, settlement proposals, correspondence, and other litigation materials.
• Conduct and participate in examinations for discovery, mediations, pre-trial conferences, and settlement discussions.
• Attend court and other litigation-related appearances as required.
• Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel, insurers, and other parties.
• Work closely with senior counsel on complex, high-value matters.
• Communicate regularly with clients and ensure they remain informed throughout the litigation process.

The Role

As a Personal Injury Lawyer, you will manage a diverse caseload and play an active role in files from initial assessment through resolution. You will have the opportunity to take increasing ownership of your matters, develop your advocacy skills, work directly with clients, and collaborate with senior lawyers on complex litigation.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of plaintiff personal injury matters from intake through settlement or trial.

• Contribute to a collaborative team environment and participate in the ongoing development of the firm's personal injury practice.
