Base pay range

CA$106,000.00/yr - CA$146,000.00/yr

Your opportunity at Arc’teryx

As a Performance Validation Manager, Advanced Concepts, you lead the performance validation strategy and function, creating consistent testing protocols, data assessment and reporting approaches across all Advanced Concepts (AC) projects. In this role, you leverage athlete data in the field, from the mountains to the trail, and bring your findings back to the AC team to analyze. You bring a sports science skillset and applied research approach to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and designers to deliver tangible solutions for the mountain athlete everywhere.

This role is primarily based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid remote work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

The Advanced Concepts team drives breakthrough innovation in snow, trail, and climb gear for the mountain athlete. Fueled by curiosity, we take a holistic approach to identifying future needs and creating tangible solutions across materials, products, technologies, and experiences. We are a team of builders, problem solvers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Our in-house capabilities span research, engineering, design, development, digital, and validation, enabling us to innovate comprehensive solutions that bring the coast mountain experience to the world. Our methodology, sustainability mindset, and passion for product are at the core of what we do.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Building, executing, and managing the performance validation program for the AC team.
  • Developing and implementing standardized testing protocols, data assessment, and reporting for all AC projects, ensuring consistency across wear testing, athlete testing, lab testing, and materials testing.
  • Managing applied athlete research and product performance validation in the mountains and labs, across climbing, snow, and trail activities. Collaborating with researchers and engineers on technical challenges, providing and receiving peer feedback.
  • Recruiting and managing a pool of mountain athletes for field and lab activities across regional and global environments.
  • Developing new research tools (hardware and software) and methods for conducting research and validation in the mountains and labs.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with scientific organizations, startups, and industry players to execute applied research that accelerates product innovation.
  • Sharing knowledge and research insights with the AC and Creative teams to inspire innovation in biomechanics, physiology, and perception.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional partners to communicate scientific principles and test results effectively.
  • Partnering with the Innovation Operations team on research funding, academic collaborations, and internship programs (e.g., SR&ED, IRAP, NRC, MITACS).
  • Driving initiatives focused on product circularity and sustainability.
  • Keeping abreast of industry technology, research literature, and equipment through continuous education and hands-on experience.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience in technical apparel or equipment research, performance validation, and product innovation.
  • 2+ years of managing performance validation or research programs.
  • Hands-on experience with data collection tools for biomechanics, physiology, and perception, both in labs and field settings.
  • Experience working with human subjects and athletes.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy and biomechanics applied to product development.
  • Expertise in experimental design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • Experience with IP development and protection, collaborating with legal teams.
  • Innovative mindset and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, inspiring innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Passion for outdoor activities and outdoor lifestyle.

The estimated base pay is CAD $106,000 to CAD $146,000, excluding bonuses and benefits. Compensation is determined by skills, experience, and education.
