Job summary

Doane Grant Thornton LLP is seeking a People and Culture Manager to lead talent attraction, engagement and development across our Nova Scotia Business Unit. You will coach People Managers, promote a coaching culture, and ensure inclusive people practices while aligning with the firm’s purpose and strategic People and Culture vision.

You’ll collaborate with colleagues nationwide to execute HR processes and strengthen our employer brand across Canada, with a flexible model that includes summer

  • Knowledge of current employment legislation and HR theories and practices.
  • Experience in recruitment, policy and performance management.
  • Ability to develop rapport across diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in a professional services or public practice environment is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Connect with the P&C team to prioritize attraction, engagement and talent development.
  • Coach People Managers to excel in people management responsibilities.
  • Reinforce coaching culture to inspire people and clients.
  • Bring the firm’s Purpose to life in decisions, goals and activities.

As a People and Culture Manager your responsibilities will include:
  • Connect in inspirational ways with our P&C team and work with them to prioritize successful attraction, engagement and development of talent
  • Contribute directly to the development of the Business Unit’s People Managers by coaching them to excel in their people management responsibilities
  • Reinforce the development of a coaching culture as a way of inspiring our people and our clients
  • Bring the firm’s Purpose to life as the why for all important decisions, goals and activities
  • Role model collaboration, shared leadership, inclusion and a coaching orientation in all interactions – every touch leaves a trace
  • Execute the National Inclusiveness strategy in the Business Unit to integrate the firm’s commitment to inclusion in all people practices
  • Work to ensure effective and inclusive communication throughout the Business Unit
  • Collaborate with your colleagues in the Nova Scotia Business Unit and across the country to execute on the strategic People and Culture vision and share knowledge and best practices
  • Execute on the cyclical HR processes and administration for various locations
  • Promote and supports the firm’s employer brand in all activities within the firm and externally

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a People and Culture Manager ? Like the colour purple? Great. Here's a few more boxes we’re also hoping you can tick:
  • Proven ability to inspire a team, articulate a vision and influence stakeholders
  • Experience working in a fast-paced atmosphere where a sense of urgency has been demonstrated
  • Knowledge of current legislation related to employment as well as current HR theories and practices including recruitment, policy and performance management
  • Ability to develop rapport with individuals across the firm, representing different perspectives, backgrounds and levels
  • Great business acumen and the ability to bring this to life operationally day to day
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Human Resource role preferred
  • Post-secondary education required; HR-related education and CPHR will be an asset
  • Exposure to a coaching framework would be an asset
  • Experience working in a professional services or public practice environment considered an asset
