We invite you to join a collegial group of two full-time Pediatricians in Port Alberni providing care for local pediatric patients and to residents of First Nations communities in Ucluelet, Nitinat, Ahousaht and Opitsaht.

The West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni is a modern, well-equipped 75 bed community hospital with 52 acute (3 ICU) and 32 multilevel beds and 24-hour emergency room services. Port Alberni has an average of 300 births per year and the hospital provides a wide array of services to a regional population of 32,000.

Our congenial medical community enjoys a full complement of Family Physicians along with specialist colleagues in anesthesiology, general surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, urology, internal medicine, psychiatry, and radiology.

Port Alberni, situated at the end of Vancouver Island's longest inlet, is one of the most affordable waterfront centres on the island. Blessed with a moderate climate, the City of Port Alberni enjoys some of the best sport salmon fishing on the coast. In addition to the natural beauty of the area, the temperate valley offers an array of year-round outdoor and ecotourism activities. The city is considered the gateway to Ucluelet and Tofino on the west coast and is within commuting distance to the larger urban centres of Nanaimo to the east and Victoria to the south. Ferry and float plane service to Vancouver from these locations is readily available.

Additional Remuneration: May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:

1. Retention Premium: 8.40%
2. Retention Flat Fee: $12,367
3. Relocation Funding Available: $15,000 (up to)
4. Recruitment Incentive: $10,000 (pro-rated)
5. Other Benefits/Incentives: Annual Rural CME - $3000 in years 3 & 4, $6000 after 4 years

Situated in the central interior of Vancouver Island at the end of a long narrow inlet, Port Alberni is one of the few ports on the west coast that provides shelter against some of the powerful Pacific weather systems. Blessed with a moderate climate, it harbours both commercial fishing vessels and pleasure craft. Recreational activities in the area include fishing, hiking, scuba diving, golfing, kayaking, and windsurfing.
