Job summary

Alberta Health Services’ Royal Alexandra Hospital Eye Institute of Alberta is seeking an Orthoptist to support pediatric ophthalmology and oculoplastic teams. You will perform sensorimotor evaluations, vision screenings, and documentation of ocular history, using a range of diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities include advanced eye-function measurements, participation in rounds and research, and ongoing education on ocular pharmacology and disorders.

Qualifications

• Completion of an orthoptic course from an accredited institution.
• Active membership with the Canadian Orthoptic Council (COC).
• Minimum of three years’ experience as an Orthoptist in a healthcare setting.
• Current CPR certification is required.
• Fluent in medical terminology and pharmacology (ophthalmic diseases & conditions).
• Self-directed, team player, good judgment, communication and organizational skills.
• Competent in use of ophthalmic equipment: tonometer, optometer, keratometer, phoropter, retinoscope, IOL Master, etc.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced eye function measurements and ancillary tests to assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing eye disorders.
• Participate in research studies, educational rounds and in-services.
• Maintain medical knowledge of ocular anatomy, pharmacology and treatments, including current clinical trials.
