Job summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at CHEO is a Registered Nurse with advanced education who provides personalized and quality care to pediatric patients. The NP works independently and with a team, including diagnosis, ordering tests, prescribing medications, and coordinating care across the hospital.

Focused on children with feeding challenges and complex subspecialty needs, the NP supports care planning, ensures continuity of care during stay, and facilitates transitions to community-based care.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing required or Doctoral prepared.
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class (RN(EC)).
• Minimum three years of recent clinical nursing experience (Essential).
• Current membership in NPAO or RNAO (Essential).
• Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (Essential).
• Ability to work in an inter-disciplinary health care environment (Essential).
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written) (Essential).

Responsibilities

• Performs and documents comprehensive patient assessments.
• Develops a plan of care with patient, family and team.
• Orders and prioritises diagnostic tests and initiates procedures.
• Prescribes pharmacological and other therapeutic interventions.
• Monitors treatment and evaluates outcomes.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to create holistic care plans.
• Provides follow-up care for patients.
• Documents all elements of patient work‑up and care in the EMR.
