Job summary

CHEO in Ottawa is seeking Technologists for the Regional Genetics Program. The Genetics Diagnostic Laboratory offers extensive molecular and cytogenetic testing for pediatric and adult populations, including PCR, sequencing, MLPA, FISH, microarrays, and more.

Roles rotate across sections; new grads and students are welcome to apply. Responsibilities include performing tests, drafting reports, troubleshooting, maintaining quality, and ensuring safety.

Qualifications

• Criminal Record Check is essential.
• Registration with the CMLTO (or eligibility) to practice in Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics.
• Currently enrolled in or graduate of an accredited Clinical Genetics Training Program.
• Experience applying genetic laboratory techniques to human diseases.
• Ability to perform procedures with accuracy and precision.
• Ability to organize workload and prioritize tasks.
• Excellent judgement and safety awareness.
• Strong computer skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic testing and adhere to laboratory procedures.
• Analyze results, draft reports to Laboratory Heads' specifications.
• Troubleshoot test results and help implement corrective actions.
• Maintain acceptable workload as directed by Laboratory Heads/Manager.
• Demonstrate technical and analytical competence in daily tasks.
• Participate in quality improvements and team meetings.
• Maintain confidential records and proper documentation.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and acts.
