Job summary

Vensure Employer Solutions in Canada is seeking a Payroll Tax Specialist to handle federal and provincial tax compliance and related research for our PEO/HCM payroll outsourcing division.

You will prepare and file payroll tax returns, monitor legislative changes, coordinate with accounting and payroll teams on new projects, and resolve notices with timely, accurate filings. A bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of payroll tax experience are required; CPP/FPC preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years Payroll Tax experience.
  • CPP or FPC certification preferred.
  • Experience in multi-province taxation is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Excel required.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The payroll Tax Specialist is responsible for various federal and provincial tax compliance and related tax research associated with the PEO, HCM, HR or payroll outsourcing industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research legal issues, concerns, solutions and filing positions in compliance with local, federal and international tax laws.
  • Coordinate with departments assigned new projects or businesses to ensure proper tax liability coverages.
  • Assist in the audit of all corporate tax payments.
  • Process payroll tax payments and tax returns for the organization which includes reconciliations.
  • Verify data for accuracy to ensure compliance with laws and regulations including organizational policies and procedures.
  • Resolve tax notices and discrepancies by analyzing information and processing corrections, if appropriate in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service and support to clients through the assistance and resolution of payroll tax issues, questions or requests.
  • Maintain professional and technical payroll tax knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, internal resources and research payroll laws and regulations at the federal, provincial and local level as needed.
  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax returns for federal, provincial and local taxes as assigned.
  • Process tax filings and payments via e-file, batch agent files, mag media and EFT debit and credit.
  • Resolve tax notices while maintaining timely status updates in case management system.
  • Prioritize and resolve assigned tasks in case management system.
  • Collaborate with accounting, payroll and other departments in a professional manner.
  • Prepare and maintain policies & procedure documentation.
  • Responsible for monitoring changes in tax legislation, jurisprudences, assessing policies and changes in tax accounting standards and communicate such changes on a timely basis.
  • Assists with indirect tax compliance function by preparing various GST and Customs forms.
  • This position will be establishing processes for Notices, Tax Compliance and GL maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be results-oriented with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a proactive approach.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary as well as attention to detail.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and possess strong customer service skills.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years Payroll Tax experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in taxation for both direct and indirect taxes for a multi-province organization
  • PEO, HCM, HR or payroll outsourcing industry experience preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional certification (CPP) or Fundamentals of Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.
